Except take out that stupid hood bulge.

Naaaaah. I think it should have it's own look... at the very least just use the look of the Commodore with a Chevy Bow-tie. I still stand by most assertion that the G8 was beautiful.. and made the Charger then.. and NOW.. look silly

Hell this chop of the CHEVY REVITALIZATION from GMI back in 2008 would do nicely...

Screw that Chevelle, give us this one:

I said "in other words" I didn't mean just gluing on a Camaro front end.

Camaro-esque? Sure, but not just Camaro.

The G8 was bland Casa...that's why the Charger ate its lunch...BLAND...and just compare the number of fleet/rental sales of the Mustang/Camaro vs the Challenger.

Yup... the Charger did eat the G8's Lunch... unfortunately while the G8 was eating lunch over at Red Stone Grille... trying to be all exclusive with a limited 30K Imports... the Charger was sitting in the back BREAK-ROOM at an AVIS Rent-A Car facility.badass

Piggy Back on Holden Story: FWD/AWD Impala Still.. RWD Niche Car Called Chevy SS?
Quote:LOS ANGELES AUTO SHOW
LOS ANGELES -- Chevrolet plans to shed the Impala's rental car image when the redesigned sedan appears this decade.

The styling of the current Impala has been untouched since the 2006 model year, as General Motors concentrated on other models and the automaker's eventual bankruptcy.

"Impalas of the past were somewhat of the flagship for Chevy," Mike Simcoe, executive director for GM global design, said during an interview last week at the Los Angeles Auto Show. "We need to make sure that we do justice to the nameplate."

Simcoe said the automaker will concentrate on such things as proportion, performance and the level of content for the redesigned, front-drive Impala. Industry sources expect the next generation around the 2014 model year. The car will share a platform with such vehicles as the Buick LaCrosse and Regal sedans.

Simcoe said GM is studying a niche rear-drive performance sedan for Chevrolet, "but the car has not received approval for production."

This niche sedan "is all about driving, passion and performance," Simcoe said. If approved, "we are going back to the essence of what Chevrolet was and stood for -- well-designed, beautiful, sculptured pieces, with lots of customer value."

GM insiders say the automaker is referring to the car as the SS and targeting the 2014 model year if approved..

First off, bring out the new Impala now. It's getting long in the tooth and doesn't really fit in with the rest of the lineup now. Hell, the Malibu came out in 2008 and will be getting a redesign for 2012. Secondly, 2014 doesn't sound right for the SS either since it has been speculated before that it would be coming in 2012. GM said it would be based on the existing VEII, which would be gone by 2014.

I agree. The Impala redo is about as easy as stealing pumpkins from a pumpkin patch.

Take the Lacrosse.. elongate it, offering two versions.. the Current and a "Long version" at 202 inches and 112 inch WB.. using the XTS underpinnings FWD and AWD optional. Give the Impala the same underpinnings but de-content it from the Buick.. let alone the Caddy... as there will be a Cadillac RWD based flagship even above the XTS. The XTS would get a PREMIUM architecture what was 206 inches long with a Premium 120-125 inch WB.

I really think that PLATFORMS should be engineered to be completely adjustable by now... the very idea of engineering specific Platforms for specific cars is ludicrous. Why not have a RWD/AWD platform.. and a FWD/AWD platform??? The variants would be structural materials and size... completely adjustable.

I have NO.. and I mean NO... issue with BADGE ENGINEERING as long as it is done well.. and only uses Platforms for scale, not just slapping a different front and rear on to the same car. The Escalade and Tahoe are OLD GM Rebadging. The Corvette and XLR.. or even Equinox and Terrain are excellent Badge engineering.

I agree Casa. GM needs to benchmark the Taurus when working on the Impala as that will be it's main competitor.

RE: Piggy Back on Holden Story: FWD/AWD Impala Still.. RWD Niche Car Called Chevy SS?
Well Mr. Simcoe missed the mark on two things.

1. It was approved for production late last year.
2. It's coming out MY2012.

Of course Simcoe is not the lead man for the SS, John Cafaro is. I am liking that they seem to be planning an all new design for this car, which won't be hard to send to production.

Overall the whole article confuses the shit out of me due to Simcoe being off on a lot of things.
