GM will have a tougher time selling the Aussie, unproven platform here.

The GM platform is known here as the G8 and Camaro. Plus the Caprice name carries some cache with police departments, where as Taurus doesn't.

While the minority of police officers and administration may have an inkling that the Caprice shares platforms with the Camaro (I wouldn't include the G8 as it sold in such a low amounts), I wouldn't count on that if I were GM. And the Caprice name isn't exactly freshand/or that iconic on most (especially younger officers) minds.

But in all honesty, my reply was just a little jibe for doc.

From what I have heard, alot of police depts are officially sitting on the fence and plan to load up big time on the remaining Crown Vics. This will take a while to sort out and I don't think there will be a clear winner for a good long while, if at all.

Ford still has the lions share of the local PD's vehicles around here. The current Impala the next most popular, but a distant second and I see very few Chargers.
