Chrysler plans to idle an Ohio assembly plant this month to prepare it for making a replacement to its Jeep Liberty sport-utility vehicle next year.

The Toledo North factory will halt production Aug. 16 and begin shipping the new model in 2013's second quarter, Zach Leroux, the plant manager, told reporters today at the facility. Chrysler said in November that it would invest $1.7 billion to update the Liberty and upgrade and expand the Toledo assembly complex to add capacity.

"We have new product and a whole new shift, so our task is tall," Leroux said. "We have a tall challenge ahead of us."

When can we expect to see the new Liberty (or hopefully the Cherokee)?

Lincoln: Luxury, elegance, simplicity.
