Officially Official: 2012 Buick Verano
[Image: 13-2012-buick-verano.jpg]

Quote:We're tempted to go ahead and call the 2012 Buick Verano a "baby Regal," because the truth is, the two cars are much more alike than you might think. Since the Verano is based off of the Chevrolet Cruze's Delta II platform (which is relatively large for what General Motors calls a "compact sedan") the new Buick's dimensions are awfully close to that of the larger, Epsilon II-based Regal. What's important to note, however, is that while the Verano is Cruze-based, it uses different materials throughout the interior and it has a totally different look. GM is convinced that there is indeed a market for an entry-level Buick sedan, and the automaker will be showing off its latest creation at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show next week.

NAIAS: 2012 Buick Verano
[Image: 2012-Buick-Verano-013_1.jpg]
DETROIT – The all-new 2012 Buick Verano compact luxury sedan, the brand’s third new model in the past two years and first in the compact luxury segment, will be revealed at the North American International Auto Show.

Verano goes on sale in the fourth quarter of 2011, the latest model in a product renaissance that began with the Enclave and continued with the LaCrosse and Regal. Like them, Verano is distinguished by luxury and technology, including 10 standard air bags, an available heated steering wheel and a next-generation radio system with OnStar-powered connectivity that enables seamless communication between the Verano and the driver’s smart phone.

An Ecotec 2.4L and six-speed automatic powertrain combination is standard and delivers an estimated 177 horsepower (132 kW) and 170 lb.-ft. torque (230 Nm), 0-60 mph performance of 8.0 seconds and an estimated 31 mpg on the highway. A 2.0L turbo engine will be offered in the future.

“Verano expands our lineup, continues Buick’s momentum and gives us a great opportunity to attract a new generation of customers with a product that delivers on their expectations for design, performance and technology,” said John Schwegman, vice president of Buick marketing. “It is a smart choice that delivers unexpected luxury in a compact sedan – and it will compete head-to-head with competitors from Audi and Lexus.”

You know what, it actually looks real good in that pic. Good angle, good color for it. Wow. I think I kind of want one actually, just so long as there is an engine in it eventually that gets at least 200hp.

That's what the 2.0T that will soon find its way into the Verano is for.

I'm still not the biggest fan, but it doesn't look too bad. I'd still love to see a version of the Astra hatch stateside however.

I'd like to see a GS version of this...a slightly less sporty Cruze SS variant... badass

The chrome eyebrows over the taillights are disastrous, but otherwise it looks great. Love the new Buick ventiports.

That's pretty sick, and that interior  it's stunning. Too bad there's not going to be a manual available on this so it's a no-deal for me

Can't wait to see it in person. It looks like a baby LaCrosse. Hopefully the driving dynamics are up to par with the A3. It should be a BIG hit for thode that want sedan Mini Coopers....

Very nice. My only concern is the overlap in engines with the Regal. I wonder if this means the Regal will drop the 2.4 and use the 2.0t as the base motor.

There is no OVERLAP in engines with the Buick when this car is several hundred pounds lighter and smaller in size. What I mean is in cars like the Camaro and Corvette... I see why they downgrade the lesser car's engine.. to calm the enthusiasts... but in this car they should have left the engine the same as the Regal's... because who really gives a shit. A 5HP drop is for appearances only... this car looks to probably weigh in at about 400lbs less than the Regal... it's performance will be equal because 5HP loss is completely negated by 400lbs of ease.

Interior and exterior are gorgeous.. and I see yet another HIT for Buick allowing it to continuously grow their market. I also see more MERCURY buyers flocking to Buick as opposed to Ford or Lincoln with product like this. Buick is officially a Lincoln, Acura, Lower Lexus competitor at this point. Phenominal turn-around.. and with their continued growth... no potential for an "Olds" type ending. Especially with over 500K sales in China and GLOBAL badge engineering
badass
