That car looks incredibly small. Too small for real luxury.

A small luxury sport sedan can be quiet. Go out and drive a 3 series or a Is350 for shit an giggles. I bet they are more quiet than anything that you own.

But as with everything there are opportunity costs. To make it faster, it will have to be not as quiet as the others... To keep costs down. The job of the engineers and designers is to find that perfect balace and from the reviews i've read of the ATS, they've found it..

Just jealous Lincoln sucks and has no appeal to the mass.

I did not mention quietness, although that is easy to achieve these days. Even Cruze is probably close to ATS in quietness, as affected by road and wind noise. NVH mostly comes down to mechanical, powertrain, etc. Does not bode well either if you are offering an economy class I4 as your base engine, which many will surely end up with in their ATS.
My comment on real luxury, has more to do with size or class. When you get too small, you lose interior space. Fine leather means little, if I am rubbing elbows with passenger, or if you have to compromise your front seat, for back seat room, and even trunk space comes into play. And vehicle mass is what will give you that smooth ride, not elaborate shocks, which only help to blend some ride compromises (sport vs comfort). That is why a 10 year old full size STS will always ride much “smoother” than a brand new ANYTHING in a compact class. Can’t argue with physics.

But that all said, I think this class is needed, and many will love it.
I just am hesitant to call it a luxury class car. It is a sport biased sedan, with luxury appointments. And I would say the same exact thing for a 3 series and A4.
There is simply no comparison in ride smoothness, of a 3 series with a 7 series. No diff for caddy.

“The build sheet is the wish list of any racer: lightweight high-revving dry-sump LS7 engine; carbon-ceramic brakes; integrated coolers; true aerodynamic downforce, and a significant reduction in curb weight. This car could only come from Chevrolet, and could only be called the Z/28.”

That is why they call it a fucking entry level luxury sedan.

Luxury can include many things. Driving dynamics, a smooth compliant ride, a powerful engine, and features. What makes a luxury car a luxury car is because it carries attributes that most mainstream vehicles don't have. High quality, technology, attention to detail and driving enjoyment. A good luxury car contains all of the above.

It's not just size and class. The only reason why bigger cars are more luxurious in terms of comfort and technology is simply because they are larger so you can cram more technology and comfort amenities which makes them expensive which in turn defines their designated class.

Your definition of luxury is pampering, and boring which is why you like lincoln. They are boring and soulless.

I don't fully disagree with wings regarding calling cars like the ATS or 3 series luxury.

I personally has never thought of a 3 series or 5 series as luxury cars as much as sport sedans.

That being said, the interior of the ATS is without a doubt the best in this class.

Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves? Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here? Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?
