Lincoln planning rear-drive products that can go head-to-head with Cadillac
Source
Photo credit: Lincoln June 26, 2012 By: CF staff With development of the all-new 2015 Mustang well underway, the car’s component set has activated interest in a rear-wheel-drive platform to underpin a Lincoln sedan. Ford is contemplating a new four-door platform using the next Mustang’s MacPherson front and new independent rear suspension as its basis, along with some of the pony car’s larger underbody stampings. With the manufacturer time and again stating its commitment to the wayward Lincoln brand, moving forward with rear-drive plans would allow the blue oval to back up its words with something of substance. If they build it, there is a glimmer of hope. If not it's goodnight Irene. Even if they get it to market ASAP it'll likely be for the '16 or '17 model year, and that might be too late. They've waffled on this decision for far too long now.
I'll be the first to admit that there are some things the F-Series does better than the Silverado. And by that I mean "donate it's back axle to the company's sporty car." |

Why? I honestly don't see the point of this. Its great for some enthusiasts who may buy it but I don't think this is what Lincoln needs. I love RWD cars, but I don't see the need for a RWD car in Lincoln's lineup. I thought Lincoln was going its own route with FWD/AWD vehicles and its own luxury philosophy. I'm waiting for Ford to offer a Ford version of a 4-door RWD sedan in its lineup just to make the Lincoln seem superfluous.

I don't think it is necessary, either, Rev.
They can increase sales regardless with their approach they are moving with now. However, if they can produce a 'halo' car that can push more traffic through a dealerships door, than all the better. ![]() They call me Ford-O Baggins. Must have the PRECIOUS!!!!! |

Economies of scale people.
Building more than one model off the same platform lowers the cost for both. Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves? Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here? Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change? |

RWD option is always welcome, but that does not mean Lincoln is suddenly a viable luxury brand.
Wait a minute, that came out wrong…LMAO. Meh, I still prefer AWD in my luxury vehicles, and with all the latest tech (and yet to be revealed tech), there is nothing better. Besides, RWD in Michigan winters, combined with a nervous nelly wife, is a recipe for fail. ======= Call it the Lincoln Apology Momentum and Employee Appreciation Sale Spectacular. Or, just....ummmm.....LAMEASS |

Jesus, it's about time! I'm just looking forward to the day that Lincoln isn't an embarrassment to the American made luxury car segment. Strength in numbers...
