Acura’s push for more radical, independent styling could be over before it starts. These pictures, which were made public this week in a European design patent database, show an RLX sedan that’s been dulled down from the only slightly edgier concept version presented last April. The RLX will arrive in early 2013 as the replacement for the RL as Acura’s range-topping sedan.

The RLX Concept's all-new 3.5L direct-injected VTEC® V-6 engine and Sport Hybrid SH-AWD® system, with three electric motors, combine to generate more than 370-horsepower, and are paired with a 7-speed dual clutch transmission (DCT) and lightweight body to deliver V-8 acceleration with four-cylinder fuel economy—with an estimated EPA (city/highway/combined) rating of 30/30/30 mpg. The front end reminds me of the previous gen Mazda6 and TL.

Looks good and as expected from the concept. Hopefully it sales well and the eSH-AWD and regular FWD versions do well in the handling department.

Patent photos never do the vehicle any justice. Anybody remember those for the 6GC? Turned out beautiful. However I don't know if this will push the envelope enough to compete in its segment.

Aftermarket should have an answer... OH WAIT. The aftermarket has taken a DUMP on Acura ever since the 2009 TL came out!

Isn't 1999 when Cadillac introduced the "Art & Science" design language with the Evoq concept? And doesn't Cadillac still employ that same design language now in 2012? So aren't they also still stuck in 1999 with Honda and Toyota too? I would say so....:ohmy:

Anyways, those lights are really nice up front. Kinda like the ones on the new A6. Well the new Audi's in general seem to have this pattern to an extent.
