Quote:It’s tough to be the king. Sit upon a throne long enough and someone’s bound to come along and try to knock you off—as was the case in the summer of 2008 when Cadillac released its all-new CTS-V to challenge the nearly 4-year-old sports sedan king, the BMW M5 (2009 Cadillac CTS-V vs. 2008 BMW M5 SMG). It was a historic moment that has helped to redefine Cadillac’s image. GM’s luxury division made no bones about it in 2008, as it specifically developed the CTS-V to knock the 2005–2010 E60 M5 off its pedestal. BMW graciously rose to the challenge and fought it out with the upstart on the racetrack, the BMW driven by Bill Auberlen and the CTS-V by John Heinricy. Not surprisingly, the CTS-V narrowly edged out the M5. If it hadn’t, we suspect someone in Cadillac’s engineering department would have been fired. Fast forward and BMW is now ready for some payback with its new F10 M5.

Great review. The V is definitely a good bargain. Surprised they didn't get to 60 quicker in the Bimmer. It all depends on road and air conditions I suppose.
When reading about the ///M5 I felt some similarities to what journalists are saying about the new Porsche 911. It's a little more isolated but a much better performer. I suppose that's the German way lately idk .

C&D was way too harsh on the ///M5 in its recent comparison test. They come off to me as a bunch of whiners. MT said in last month's issue this is the best ///M5 ever made.

3 comparisons at the URL below say the Bimmer is superior to the AMG as well.

RE: 2013 BMW M5 vs 2012 CTS-V - Road & Track
Its funny reading that a competitor has better feel and steering than a BMW. Recently, it seems as if BMW just can't get that one thing that set them apart. The CTS-V is more of the drivers car.

Anyone who hates on the Toybaru because it has feel yet is slower but still praises the CTS-V for the same reasons that it has more feel and feedback than the BMW needs to shove an exhaust tip up their ass.

RE: 2013 BMW M5 vs 2012 CTS-V - Road & Track
I don't think the problem is that BMW "can't get steering feel right." I'm 99% sure they are purposefully tuning it to the preferences of their typical customers. Choosing between an ///M5, E63, XFR, etc. is usually an emotional decision, so I'd expect their drivers to be different as well.
It leaves me a bit confused but by the time I'm at the age I can afford a $93,000 sport sedan I'm sure I'll be looking for a sports car that I can live with in my daily commute. I can't imaging dealing with the steering in my E90 at that age. The ///M5 is essentially a more relaxed ///M3 for that older, more mature customer.

RE: 2013 BMW M5 vs 2012 CTS-V - Road & Track
I would not worry too much about the steering feel in a BMW. EPS is a technology that has room to improve one with respect to the vey complex fuzzy logic used to provide haptic feedback to the driver.

Years ago, they said the same shit about power steering vs mechanical.

Hell, I kind of liked the overboosted power steering in our 1972 Fury. I could drive that thing with two fingers on the wheel and, when needed, easily palm that wheel to parallel park in one pass.

Car and Driver nit picks anything that does not remind them of the 1960s MG Roadster that they tooled around in back when their dick watched them comb their hair rather than tie their shoes. I read them as bitter old has beens who never were.

To me, the BMW and CTS-V are just different looking hot women meant to be driven hard, long and often.

For a car that is almost 5 model years old and $25 cheaper to be neck and neck with the brand new M5 to me shows what an amazing car the CTS-V is!

Can't wait for the next gen! :2thumbsup:

Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves? Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here? Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?

These cars are very badass, but I still want this in my driveway:
[Image: 2012-Porsche-Panamera-Turbo-S-Front-View-2.jpg]
Panamera Turbo S. Yes, it costs a ton more, but as the old man that pulled into the valet said about his: "When you're blessed to buy something like this, value is not the main thing. Emotion is." He also said he couldn't wait for his new 911 to come in. The leather interior he ordered was on back order brickwall

Still, M5 and CTS-V rock and kick major ass. badass

Got a chance to sit in one of these babys. If I won the lottery it would be my pick as well. I'm in love

Funny how the new M5 basically equaled out the CTS-V, lmao but let's get to the real point here, you can't go wrong with either of them :2thumbsup:, you want a comfortable cruiser that will put out great lap times on the track, get the M5, if you want to scare everyone and drive like a hooligan everyday, get the CTS-V. They're like vanilla and chocolate ice cream, same thing, but appeal to different people.

To add to this...
You can buy the Bryers for a lot more money but the Harris Teeter brand is just as good... some people will pay more for the Bryers just because - it's Bryers :yeeees:

Wow, that's so cool that your ass actually touched the interior! I hope you got to do it bareback! Nothing is worse than having to sheathed it up. I don't know about you but I just can't feel much!
