1st Place: 2012 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1
An unrivaled combination of precise control, ample power and a strikingly refined — and multitalented — chassis.

2nd Place: 2013 Ford Shelby GT500
More brawn than brains, which isn't a bad thing. Unless there's a ZL1 nearby.

Interesting, that the mustang is much quicker, much faster, far more power to get the job done, and even stops shorter.....but it is not quicker on a slalom by a few tenths, and so they gave it to the new camaro.

Can't wait for new chassis stang to show up.

Love the analogy of a submarine for visibility, making it difficult to enter turns and the need for a backup camera just to see behind you. I totally get that, and too bad, as that is real world daily shit.....not shaving tenths.

Meh, I would rather win every race with a stang

You can add all the horsepower you want to the Mustang and Camaro and I will still take the Challenger.

Its because in real world driving, roads have curves and are not just endless straighaways.

interesting, but kind of what i expected performance wise. i'd take the mustang though, the Camaro looks like a 10 year old's Transformers wet dream.

All that you presented to the argument was straight line analysis. On a track, straight line performance says nothing and that's partially where Ford got it wrong. On a drag, GT500 is perfect, but GM took the time to create a perfect balance. ZL1 vs. GT500=GT-R vs Veyron.

Still though, given a bit of tuning effort, the GT500 is an absolute beast. Just too bad Ford focused all its time in places that shouldn't matter too much.

The ZL1 is the car you take to the local race track on the weekends while the GT500 goes to the drag strip. However, making it great for drag racing doesn't make it great as a daily driver.

I'd always take the more balanced car as my dd. Track balance equals better maneuverability and emergency handling on public roads. But, I'm sure 1 or 2 feet of complete stopping distance would make all the difference in every case.:tounge:

This shouldn't be a shock to anyone. coffee

We all knew the ZL1 is the more refined modern handler while the stang solders on as the classic american muscle brute.

“The build sheet is the wish list of any racer: lightweight high-revving dry-sump LS7 engine; carbon-ceramic brakes; integrated coolers; true aerodynamic downforce, and a significant reduction in curb weight. This car could only come from Chevrolet, and could only be called the Z/28.”

I like the last thing the guy said on the video. "No contest" rockon

C Mon. How many times must it be said? IRS > LRA

Over 1g on the skid pad.

The Shelby is AWESOME! As a Camaro guy its hard for me to man up and praise the stang, but its a sledgehammer when it needs to be a scalpel.

RE: Edmunds: Camaro ZL1 beats 2013 GT500
"Nothing is more humbling than watching a car with 100 fewer horses and the extra weight of an NFL running back disappear into the distance on a back road. But that's exactly what happened when we brought the two cars together to establish which is the best-driving pony car ever. The answer, as improbable as it seemed, was as obvious as the Camaro's shrinking taillights.

The angriest Mustang in history, the car that had face-punched the ZL1 for months at auto shows and in Web forums was being systematically annihilated by that exact car. Every corner was another opportunity for the Camaro to drop trou and wave its giant bowtie-emblazoned butt in the GT500's face."

That's all u need to read. coffee

Not surprised by the outcome as the suspension on the Camaro is definitely suited for a back road romp.

I would imagine on a tighter track the Camaro would also have the edge.

For straight line and longer tracks I would think that the Mustang would have the advantage.

The ZL1 is the Camaro to have, no doubt.

Its crazy seeing that for daily usage, the ZL1 is just the better car. You can drive it to the track and on your daily commute in comfort. This is where suspension geometry and dampening really come into effect and its easy to see the Mustang's handicap. I prefer the looks of the Mustang over the Camaro, but the all round better car IMO is the ZL1, despite its heft (both are still too damn heavy).
