Texas highway will be first road in the country to have a posted 85 mile per hour speed limit
Source
Photo credit: BMW June 7, 2012 By: CF staff The Texas Department of Transportation said today a toll road being built from San Antonio to north of Austin could be the first road in the country to have a posted 85 mile per hour speed limit. "It was designed under extremely high design parameters," said Darren McDaniel, the Speed Management Director for the department, which builds and manages all Texas highways. The highway, called State Highway 130, is being built to take traffic loads off of the heavily overcrowded Interstate 35 between San Antonio and north of Austin, a stretch which is one of the most congested in the country. Most of the highway is built, and posted at 80 miles per hour, and the remainder is set to be opened before the end of this year. Reviews |

We drive that anyway.
“The build sheet is the wish list of any racer: lightweight high-revving dry-sump LS7 engine; carbon-ceramic brakes; integrated coolers; true aerodynamic downforce, and a significant reduction in curb weight. This car could only come from Chevrolet, and could only be called the Z/28.” |

No need to be going that fast. You're just endangering the lives of yourself and others.

Pussy. ![]() but sadly you are right...kinda..... a vast majority of drivers are not skilled enough to drive this speed safely(or any other for that matter) There are people out there that are very capable of driving this speed or higher, safely... and many that do anyway... even when the speed limit is 75mph This is yet another reason there needs to be stricter testing an guidelines for people to get a drivers license. ![]() NOT THE GOAL BUT THE GAME, NOT THE VICTORY BUT THE ACTION, IN THE DEED THE GLORY

Riddle me this, if speed is so dangerous, why is the Autobahn safer than US highways? Because when you're doing 150mph, you pay attention to the god damn road, not your cell phone or cup of coffee. Also, in Germany driving is more of a privilege. An expensive to acquire privilege. ![]() |

RE: Texas highway will be first road in the country to have a posted 85 mile per hour speed limit
If the speed limit is 80 everyone is going to be doing an average speed of 120 and I'm slightly worried of that because the majority of American drivers can't handle going 70
![]() But then again, this highway is designed to go 80 on. Speed: As much as I love going fast 80 mph speed limits can't just be posted here and be done, take a lot of the roads on Long Island for example. There are people that will go play daredevil and go 80+ but they usually are fishtailing, tailgating, changing lanes every 3 seconds and unfortunately texting. While the Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway (route 135), LIE (I-495), Ocean Parkway, and maybe a few others are easy to drive fast but some such as the Northern State Parkway (too narrow and windy), Medowbrook Parkway (horrible from the Northern State to Nassau Coliseum), and Wantagh Parkway are just not good roads to go over 70 in, well not in a big 2 ton Honda Pilot. My average speed on the highways is around 65-70ish so I go fast but I don't weave in and out of traffic usually especially since most of these highways are hell when you drive in rush hour. AT least 90% of Americans (myself included) should not be going faster than 70, in NY we're not trained to go faster than 55mph (though my driver's ed teacher made me go 85 in a shitty Malibu Classic scary) and it's just too crowded to really go fast and feel safe. I feel safe going around 65 so I just set the cruise control at that, but yes lots of others zoom past you probably going 90 or so, and I'd feel scared if I was somehow thrown into the car.80 mph speed limits can't be done without extensive modifications to the highways, the cars on the road (the average age of a car today is 8 I think) and driver education.
