Bottom line in this thread, is that the overly heavy SHO managed, through smart Ford engineering, to make a heck of a daily driver, sleeper, whatever......that manages to impress the shit out of people.

And since they cost similar, you need to compare the SHO to the SRT8, not a simple V8 charger.

The SRT8 Charger would RAPE the SHO, plain and simple. There is no comparison other than price.

2012 Charger SRT8:

0-60 MPH 4.3 sec
QUARTER MILE 12.8 sec @ 115.5 mph
BRAKING, 60-0 MPH 112 ft
LATERAL ACCELERATION 0.89 g (avg)
MT FIGURE EIGHT 25.8 sec @ 0.72 g (avg)
EPA CITY/HWY FUEL ECON 14/23 mpg (est)

link

2010 Taurus SHO (couldnt any newer Motor Trend results)

0-60 5.2
Quarter mile 13.7 sec @ 103.0 mph
Braking, 60-0 mph 112 ft
Lateral acceleration 0.87 g (avg)
MT figure eight 26.8 sec @ 0.70 g (avg)
EPA city/hwy econ 17/25 mpg

2011 Dodge Charger RT RWD

0-60 mph 5.3 sec
Quarter mile 13.9 sec @ 103.6 mph
Braking, 60-0 mph 113 ft
Lateral acceleration 0.86 g (avg)
MT figure eight 26.0 sec @ 0.67 g (avg)
EPA city/hwy fuel econ 16/25 mpg (est)

So as you can see, the SRT8 is very nearly a full second faster in ever category, and is only 2mpg off of the Hwy MPG of the Taurus, HOWEVER the RT is nearly identical in every category, and has the same Hwy MPG, AWD on the Charger only drops it to 24mpg Hwy.

Yes the Taurus has AWD, and on a wet track, it would MIGHT win..... But who the frak races in the rain or snow? Who the frak cares if it can accelerate faster on a slick surface? People who buy the SRT8 in the snow belt, probably have another car to drive in shitty weather anyway. The RWD Charger RT probably isnt the biggest seller in the snow belt, but its not as bad in the snow as some would have us believe, ask Atvman... he drives a Charger RT RWD... and lives in Michigan.

To make it worse for the SHO is the SuperBee's Performance Numbers

2012 Charger SRT8 Super Bee:

0-60 MPH 4.2 sec
1/4 Mile 12.6 sec @ 115.5 mph

And I'm guessing the Super Bee undercuts the SHO in price.

Only a "Blue Ovary" fanboy would defend the bloated FWD biased Tawrus over the RWD Charger/300.

Throw a few curves at the rt, and it squeals like the pig it is, and the srt8 fairs little better.
Sho seems to have fixed everything that was wrong last year, making it one impressive and versatile all year round vehicle.

Taurus weighs more than Charger..... so if the Charger is a pig.... then Taurus is a hippo? idk

Maybe you should go drive each of these cars back to back before making such claims that a car will squeal and another will fair little better, seriously.

here is what Motor Trend had to say about the new Charger RT and how it drives:

Motor Trend Wrote:As for how it drives, let me say this now and get it over with: if Dodge gives the new Charger a proper transmission, it will be spoken about in the same lofty platitudes as the BMW E39 M5. This car is that close to being a performance legend.

RE: Stealthy SHO takes to the track at Grattan Raceway
^

MT lists the SHO as less weight than SRT8, but that aside, just to be clear once again, I am not claiming SHO does any single performance metrics better, just that it has transformed into a track star with all the upgrades in 2013 (even though everyone keeps listing 2010 perf numbers here), and should be closer to SRT8 in track times. The RT is what it is, a V8 family sedan with a fraction of the track perf goodies that SHO offers. You could not comfortably run it as long on a track as the SHO, because the SRT8 is the model with all the track bits - hence my remarks.

And yes I understand that SRT8 is way up in power.
But it is also way up in other things as well, like price, fuel consumption, insurance costs, and far less real world usage, which explains why SHO far outsells it. Which only again reminds me why SHO is such a value as an all around vehicle. SRT8 is an as awesome car, with far more of a focused mission. SHO fits everywhere.

That's all I have on the SRT8, so back to the thread subject, how wonderful the new SHO is.:OHYEAH!:

RE: Stealthy SHO takes to the track at Grattan Raceway
So what you're saying is that the SHO isn't really a competitor to the Charger at all? If not, then who is it supposed to appeal to? Judging by sales, not too many.

Once again I will try and pry the yappy little troll from my ankle and get back to what I was saying before he took a liking to my pantleg... the Ford Taurus SHO should have been a Lincoln. Ford should have taken the styling, the hardware, the suspension tuning... and put a Lincoln badge on it. The ride isn't intended for out-and-out sportiness? Fine, make it a near-lux car. The drivetrain isn't neck-snapping? Fine, make it a near-lux car and leave it to the tuners to make it spit fire. It still wouldn't be ideally suited to fight Cadillac, for instance. But it would be a definite step in the right direction. As it is it's just a startingly expensive Ford with relatively modest capability.

RE: Stealthy SHO takes to the track at Grattan Raceway
Charger RT can be optioned with a track pack just as the SHO can. Without the track pack, its already equal to the SHO, adding track packs to both probably wouldnt make much of a difference between them.

When regarding the weight, I was talking about the RT being less than the SHO. I know the SRT8 is heavier... but it cant be by much.

SHO is a great car, ive always liked the SHO.... I just dont think it comes close to the SRT8, because... as you said, it is much more focused in its mission.

I admit, it didnt really dig much when looking for numbers on the 2013 SHO, but I was trying to keep all the numbers from one site and Motor Trend didnt have any available for the 2013 SHO, which is why I posted the 2010 or whatever year I posted

RE: Stealthy SHO takes to the track at Grattan Raceway
mopar,
Perhaps you know, or I guess I could look it up, but is that a dealer or factory installed performance pack for RT? Genuinely curious, and did not know much about it. Is it really same level as this new PP for SHO, which in addition to AWD standard, includes:

-20" machined wheels and summer perf tires.

-Package-specific sport-tuned suspension with unique dampers and springs.

-Braking includes stainless rotors, brake pads that are
more resistant to fade under severeduty use, and track-tuned 18-inch brake rotors

-AdvanceTrac ESC is fitted with a true off mode.

-The SHO's PP has special EPAS calibration to really tune the steering for tighter, yet nicely weighted feeling, balanced between nice on-center return and then varied for light parking lot duties, working in harmony with the torque sensing driveline to minimize lane drift, torque steer, etc.

-3.16 to 1 final drive ratio for PP only.

-Enhanced cooling system, including an engine oil cooler, power transfer unit, rear differential unit and an auxiliary transmission cooler.

-Additional interior bits, like suede wrapped steering, etc.

RE: Stealthy SHO takes to the track at Grattan Raceway
well from the looks of what you posted it seems the PP on the SHO might be alittle more involved than the "Super Track Pak" on the RT...

all I could find was this:

245/45 R20 BSW Goodyear F1 Supercar tires
3-Mode Electronic Stability Control
Anti-Lock 4-Wheel Disc Heavy Duty Brakes
Delete Load Leveling and Height Control
Performance Steering
Sport Suspension

There is apparently a shorter final drive ratio at 3.06:1

couldnt find anything else specific about the STP... but its only available on the RT Road and Track package, which adds special leather seats, paddle shifters and a few other things that the RT and RT-Plus dont offer
