BMW's next-generation Z4 will be a more dynamic sports car than previous iterations of the two-seat roadster, say well-placed company insiders.

BMW is aiming to make the next Z4, due around 2015, more agile and sportier to drive, although the character shift will be relatively modest in order to avoid alienating fans of the current sports car.

They always talk about making a Z2, why not make it a sports car and leave the Z4 as it is

Then what is the point of the 6-Series if the Z4 is supposed to go after the SL?

The Z4 just went from sports car to grand tourer. its never really going to sell in huge numbers anyway so its fine to keep it a grand tourer. If they want to go this new route (old route) then just trim it down and make it sportier. It seems that they don't want to alienate current buyers so the less you do, the better.

Never saw the two as competitors really, but if thats the case, plan b

If thats the case, just make a smaller, lighter Z4 with alot less weight (ragtop) with a sports (not sporty, sport) suspension and minimalist interior. Basically a BMW S2k CR with a specially tuned N20

To make sure it wouldn't cannibalize the Z4's sales, make it too rough for most people and ONLY offer stick, and of course, remove some creature comforts (navi, blue tooth, seats are manual, ect.), make it a proper sports car
