New luxury sport sedan launches this summer

The all-new, rear-wheel-drive Cadillac ATS compact luxury sport sedan with a fuel-efficient 2.5L engine and next-generation six-speed transmission will be priced starting at $33,990, including destination charges. Highway fuel economy will be well over 30 mpg.

“The ATS enters a vehicle segment this year that’s one of the most competitive in the market, from both a price and performance standpoint,” said Don Butler, vice president of Cadillac Marketing. “ATS will bring a distinctive presence and compelling value while offering quick, nimble, fun-to-drive dynamics that will appeal to the lifestyles of modern luxury buyers and challenge the segment’s status quo.”

A mid-level model with a lightweight and powerful 2.0L turbocharged engine costs $35,795 including destination and will offer automatic and manual transmissions, and rear- or all-wheel drive.

Topping the engine range is a 3.6L V-6 with a preliminary rating of 320 horsepower, costing $42,090 including destination with an automatic transmission and standard content that includes CUE, leather 8-way power seats with memory, adaptive start and more. All-wheel drive will be available.

A full breakdown of availability and pricing of packages and options will be available later.

ATS goes on sale this summer, but already the new sport sedan is positively impacting Lansing, Mich., where more than 410 new employees have been hired at Cadillac’s Lansing Grand River plant where the ATS will be assembled. A total of 600 new employees are expected to be part of Cadillac’s $190 million investment in the facility.

A dedicated engineering team has traveled the globe refining and advancing the ATS to meet customer demands. The addition of advanced materials has reduced curb weight to less than 3,400 pounds, more than 100 pounds less than an Audi A4 or Mercedes-Benz C250.

Time spent at premier race tracks around the globe, including Road America, Road Atlanta, Phoenix International Raceway and the Nürburgring in Germany has enhanced the ATS’ sporty ride and handling and engine tuning. The 3.6L model is expected to have a 0-60 mph acceleration time of well below six seconds.

Cadillac’s new CUE user interface, standard on most ATS models, offers the first automotive use of capacitive touch to create an intuitive, modern way for drivers to interact with the car. This technology, used for most smartphones and tablet computers, uses electrodes to sense the conductive properties of objects, such as a finger.

So they priced it $1000 under the 3series. Bravo... It gives credit to my belief that the next CTS will start in the $40K range... and that the XTS is underpriced

Pricing for the 2.0 seems aggressive but $1k lower than the Regal GS.

I don't think so C.

According to BMWUSA.com the 328i starts at $34,900.

Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves? Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here? Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?

Nice prices I think I would lean towards the 2.0 in that amazing blue color. Very nice car. Excited to see what the V will be.

I think the 2.0t with manual trans is going to be the way to go and I LOVE how the Art & Science design theme is evolving. Unlike the current CTS which I still see as two halves of different cars - the front half is a 100%, out-of-the-park grand slam while from the B-pillar back, it's a base hit... maybe a double if I'm in a generous mood.

If Cadillac's design continues along its current path of evolution then the next CTS is going to be a drop-dead stunner. I cannot wait to see that car.

2.0 please rockon

“The build sheet is the wish list of any racer: lightweight high-revving dry-sump LS7 engine; carbon-ceramic brakes; integrated coolers; true aerodynamic downforce, and a significant reduction in curb weight. This car could only come from Chevrolet, and could only be called the Z/28.”

So the 2.0T and 3.6L will be right in line with the new 3-Series, but will probably be supported by a less ass-rapey option pricing structure.

I hate how retardedly vague GM has been about this car.

Kinda overpriced for a newcomer. Should have started $5K less than 3 series.

RE: 2013 Cadillac ATS priced from $33,990
Personally, I think just about all cars are over priced. That being said, I'm ok with the Cadillac being only a thousand dollars less than the BMW. If it was any cheaper, I don't think customers and the general public would see them in the same light. The reason why Cadillac isn't seen on the same level as BMW and Benz is because of a main reason being price. When the general public sees a bargain price on a luxury name, thoughts of level of craftsmanship and quality arise. I personally have opted for the more expensive item (regardless of what it may be) by thinking that thing I just bought will last longer, or have better quality or whatever the case may be. Admit it, we all have done that. If Cadillac is targeting the tried and true luxury marques they can't hold back. I've sat in the ATS, I've felt the material and it is no less than the BMW and above the C-Class. Now don't get me wrong, I can't hold what I see at an auto show as official proof since the cars are beaten and bruised and shifters are missing or the cars are fake in many regards but the way GM is moving Cadillac in the right direction, they have no choice but to ask the price they are asking for it. I support this pricing fully.

I'm betting with similar HP as the Camaro LT... but more than 400:shock:lbs lighter.. we are gonna see 0-60 in about 4.8-5.2 secs. varying because of the unknown exhaust system style of aggressiveness they go with.

OH.. and until that thing is on sale.. GM is FINALLY being as vague as the SHOULD be with the numbers. Fine tuning.. fine tuning... badass

U're stupid... and could quite possibly be a living, breathing example of what a person would be like if they put a Sheep Brain in a human body.

The pricing literally gives Cadillac the ability to market the "For almost $1000 less" montage while possibly bettering the 3series in every category imaginable except ugliness.

We don't disagree on much. but I have to call U on that. The reason why Cadillac is not currently thought of as being equal to BMW and Benz is because it is AMERICAN... and the Boomers and Gen X are a Cesspool of self-hate. To top it off the inflated pricing of BMW and Benz up until recently reflected duties that Cadillac simply didn't have to charge

Not in regards to cars. I see that Europe was the build place of most anything and I steer clear like the plague

Absolutely agree with this.. but pricing high for the sake of pricing high is absolute bad marketing. My only issue with Cadillac pricing is that the XTS is in a fcked up place and should be at least $5K more to start. Their saving grace is that I am willing to bet good money that finding a $45K XTS is about as hard as finding a Mega-Millions Winning Ticket in a Baltimore McDonalds Bathroom. Believe me.. they tried.badass

RE: 2013 Cadillac ATS priced from $33,990
Let me add to Casa's point about Cadillac's pricing strategy (which is exactly where Cadillac should be): Let's say Cadillac is packing the price of the ATS (and subsequent new models). So what! Let them get as much as they can for their product. They've clawed and scratched their way back to the top with great product. Cadillac didn't buy their market share with incentives. They've earned their place in the sun.

AND - if the cars are packed with profit, it puts Cadillac in a great position if they have to throw incentives at their cars in order to match what the Euros do - and with France now following the Socialist path and possibly screwing up the European Union even more than it already is, the Euro Luxobarge builders may find themselves fucked.
