lengnert;201860 Wrote:Well, there are really three things that a Fordie could say here.

One, the Mustang has already had IRS, so it isn't necessary to speculate. There will be some (like me) that welcome it to a certain degree. And, there will be some that don't (like me, I know conflicted huh?).

-Unless you torch out your interior, bolt on a rollcage and add a set of Mickey Thompsons, there is no reason to mourn the loss of the solid rear axle. It is a setup for the hardest of the hardcore, justified by a beancounter 10 years ago as a way to trim 200 bucks off the cost of a platform worthy of Jaguars (S-Type, we hardly knew ye).

Two, the Mustang doesn't need it to be the best car in it's class.

-If the Mustang was still leading in sales I might be able to buy that argument. But it isn't. Even if it WERE that's no excuse for dumbing down product for the paying customer. Be honest: if Ford decided to turn the SHO into a RWD Charger-killer you'd have an aneurysm if they tried to save a buck or two by taking the back axle from the old Crown Vic. And rightly so.

If the Camaro (not including the ZL1 apparently) didn't employ such a poor execution of the IRS maybe it would be a bigger issue. And to be honest, the Challenger negates itself in this discussion because of it's size and weight.

-The Challenger is a bit tubby. Always has been, likely always will be. The Camaro's suspension was set up to understeer. That has been fixed. The Ford's suspension cannot help but judder around turns with imperfect pavement. It cannot be fixed.

And three, since it is the GM contingent that makes the loudest noise concerning the Mustang and it's LRA; it has to make you wonder that they must be thinking of how irrelevant the Camaro will be when the IRS makes a comeback in the Mustang. The only thing the Camaro will have to make it 'special' is the cartoon like styling, I suppose.

-The customer wants what the customer wants. I know folks who loathe the Camaro. Good for them. As I said earlier, when the new Mustang debuts it will have IRS and, barring some mindblowing stroke of idiocy from Ford, my hatred for it will end. I'll still be a GM guy who plays footsie with Mopar, but at least I'll be able to take the Mustang seriously again.

:tounge: Haha, just thought I was missing out on all the ado here. laugh

Nah, yer still a jerk

I'll be the first to admit that there are some things the F-Series does better than the Silverado. And by that I mean "donate it's back axle to the company's sporty car."

It is hard to argue with just how complete a car the Mustang is. It just does most everything so well.

From performing against the lower end rivals (Subie/Scion), to the established higher end marks (M3 et al).

This is the nadir of the pony car.

Uh, Len... Unless you've suddenly gone all sarcastic and ironic on us I think as a Ford guy you meant to say "apex" of the pony car. I would be the one to say "nadir."

Oops, late at night. Carry on.

I thought Wings hacked your account for a sec laugh

Happens a lot these dayslaugh

I also love that the base Mustang is the go-to coupe to measure up against, while they ignore the camaro. And even after two engineering powerhouses came together for this japcrapmobile and pulled out all the stops, they still could not beat the long in the tooth Mustang.

But please ladies, continue wadding up your panties with a bunch of played out excuses.....it's what entertains us daily.

and booohooo, I am going to ignore the praising it got, especially steering, and mention solid axles once again.......or track packs should be standard in a base coupe (That one really cracks me up) because everyone intends on taking their daily base model driver to the track and nobody wants the option of maybe having a more tolerable ride if they don't.....amazing really.:2thumbsup:

Keep it up ladies.
You are only at about 4 pages. I expect the usual 8-10 pages of hateradelaugh

You're backing a loser, man. I could write about that forever. And it's not exactly tearing up the sales charts either, so there's nothing to be concerned about whatsoever.

doom,

simple common sense and basic psychology can reveal ur intentions and utter false hatred for mustang. You simply pretend to hate that a simple formula works so well, and in stark contrast to your nonstop fake bashing, repeatedly, over and over to try and cover your tracks, pages and pages, in every single mustang thread.

You are a closet stang lover.

Yeah, I think we can skip the analytical Jungian psychology.
You are completely transparent.

So please, don't let us down. Some count on your ramblings for entertainmentcoffee

Lol I'm surprised the mustang didn't bust its drive shaft.

Shit.. if this is the best the track pack can do, the non track pack must get its ass handed to it

“The build sheet is the wish list of any racer: lightweight high-revving dry-sump LS7 engine; carbon-ceramic brakes; integrated coolers; true aerodynamic downforce, and a significant reduction in curb weight. This car could only come from Chevrolet, and could only be called the Z/28.”
