The concept is a nice looking car. However, a Mustang design needs to have historically identifiable Mustang design cues.

I have shown the concept picture to several people and it was not recognized as a possible Mustang design.

I think that is a mistake...a New Coke big mistake.

The concept you guys are looking at is last year's Eos concept, not a Mustang concept. The story was written and they needed a pic to go with it. Eos pics are common, so they figured "Why not?"

That's quite a bold prediction as Mini has been doing very well lately and plans to expand its fleet with several new models in the coming years. But you may have a point, albeit far-fetched IMO. Only time will tell.

I do agree with several of you that the retro-theme for the Mustang is getting played out. I really don't know what they can do with the next model to keep it as retro as it is. I expect a very sleek, modern-looking vehicle with a few traditional Mustang-touches here and there to replace the current model. I'm excited to see what Ford has up their sleeve with this one.

I'm not saying it's caught up with Mini yet, but only a fan could tell the difference between the various years of modern Minis. The model proliferation is filling market gaps and is so far a successful strategy, but I do think you have to wonder what the next generation will look like?

They've done two generations of Mini that look nearly identical. Can you sell new "old" three times? Four? Is Mini defined by retro styling or by compact, efficient design? It's both a business and design challenge. Mini is currently hip and trendy. Problem with trends is they are fickle by nature.

I'd probably try to ride the trend and be ready with the next "new" thing when retro Mini wears thin.

Fastest way to fail in business is to just keep doing what made you successful.

May be a bold prediction, but it's well grounded in market theory and history. The market always responds. The market is dynamic. If you're static you get rolled over by changing tastes and preferences.

I definitely understand what you are getting at and have had many of the same concerns myself. I don't want to come off as a fanboy here, but with BMW Group in charge I highly doubt that Mini will become static in its design and engineering. BMW Group has proved throughout history it can innovate and lead the industry in terms of technology, styling, and labor and production methods. BMW's own boom, in combination with Rolls-Royce and Mini's renewed prominence in their respective markets under ownership by BMW Group support this.

Wake me up when it gets IRS.

I'll be the first to admit that there are some things the F-Series does better than the Silverado. And by that I mean "donate it's back axle to the company's sporty car."
