03 Town Car, misfire?
So the engine light on my Town Car came on, and my buddy checked what the codes were and it came with these....
P0316: Misfire Cylinder 1, on start up P0307: Cylinder 7 misfire.... The car shakes a idle, and feels sluggish. Will I mess it up more if I continue to drive it like this? and if anyone knows about how much its going to cost me to fix it.

RE: 03 Town Car, misfire?
My suspicion might be that the coil packs on those cylinders might be bad. That is one possibility.
It is not the most expensive fix you could run into. If that is indeed the problem, you may even be able to buy and install the packs yourself. It isn't hard at all. ![]() They call me Ford-O Baggins. Must have the PRECIOUS!!!!! |

RE: 03 Town Car, misfire?
Sounds like a crank case position sensor for the first code. I'll do some googling later.

RE: 03 Town Car, misfire?
Well, since the misfire codes came up, I hadnt used the Town Car because it felt sluggish and rough at idle....
So, I decide to move it a few days ago, and turns on like nothing. No more engine light, and smooth as ever at idle. Im curious as to what happen? And if the problem is going to come back sooner rather than later. Im planning on going to Fresno this weekend, and wanted to take the car. ![]() * I've put about 100 miles since the problem went away, and still running like a champ. Fuck GM Sheep

AF;201590 Wrote:Well, since the misfire codes came up, I hadnt used the Town Car because it felt sluggish and rough at idle.... Interesting, but not necessarily unprecedented. Could've been something as simple as moisture in those cylinders that dissipated. Those codes (and not incidentally) and the sluggishness may simply reappear. I would put some dry gas (or really just buy a bottle of rubbing alcohol) and dump it in and let the engine run for a while. If the codes come on again I would have it looked at. ![]() They call me Ford-O Baggins. Must have the PRECIOUS!!!!! |

RE: 03 Town Car, misfire?
first thing to try...
GET NEW GAS. Winter fuel sometimes does that. try a bottle of seafoam or gasoline stabilizer to get rid of that alcohol bs second, clean, throttle body, clean maf sensor and check sparkplug gap and wires. ' Does he beat on it a lot? If he does, beating on it will change the gap and cause misfires. change gap and replace spark plugs if necessary. If none of those cheap o fixes work Then it's either your injectors or coil packs(if equipped) or spark plug wires rotors and cap/distributor. If that doesn't fix it. Get a compression test and leak down test. bad compression, leaks will cause misfires also. Oil comsumption causes misfires. _______________________________________________________________

RE: 03 Town Car, misfire?
Running it while it's missing will put excessive stress on your motor mounts. Not a good idea with a high mileage vehicle.

Yeah, I know. Thats why I stopped using, but like I said I decided to move it a few days ago, and the car is working fine as of right now. No more engine light, no more sluggishness, no more rough idling. I've put a total of about 200 miles on it now, and its still running flawless. I'm still a bit skeptical about taking to Fresno tomorrow, the 5 is no picnic. Fuck GM Sheep

I would take something else until you know why it did that. If it did it once, chances are it will do it again. Or it may have just been a ghost in the system, just like Unintended Acceleration:WINK:
