Camaro vs Gensis Coupe
Ok my dad needs a new car and the current objective is a RWD sports car. I have discussed with him the possible choices that both he and I discussed. The main factors are not numbers but fun, gas mileage, warranty, price, reliability and style. Both would be base trim with a 6-speed manual.
My dad said he wants the Genesis due to the 10year/100,000 mile limited warranty that it has. He also likes the style and fuel economy which is great. I like it too for those reasons but apparently the manual transmission is horrible on all models (we're talking about the 2012 model, not the 2013) based on a few reviews that I read. Otherwise the car looks like it would be a great choice. The model we would get would be a base 2.0T.
The Camaro. This is what I would want the most, plus we have a $3,500(?) discount if we buy any new GM vehicle. My dad did test drive it and it was a great car according to him. It's also the better looking and more powerful car (and apparently more economical :yeeeessmile out of the two. I think it's also the cheaper and I think just overall better in all ways. There's the obvious problem of it having absolutely NO VISIBILITY at ALL and maybe it might just be a little rough though. We would get an LS coupe or possibly a 1LT convertible (I want a convertible cause my good friend got a Wrangler and I want a convertible :toungesmile

I'll be driving this car also but obviously this is going to be my dad's choice. We could get this within a few weeks once we get the insurance money from the Tracker (which won't be too much, but it served us well). I want him to look at the Scion FR-S/Subaru BRZ but I want to say it's going to be too hardcore for both us.

Obviously this isn't definite, he's going all over the place with what he wants. He did mention Toyota (Prius :brickwallsmile and Honda (hopefully CR-Z but it's going to be an Insight) but he keeps his cars for as long as he can so a hybrid may not be the best idea. He did mention Hyundai Elantra (fair enough) and Mini Cooper (I'm open to it).

Any other suggestions would be amazing; It must be relatively cheap, have a manual, decent fuel economy and good warranty. Insurance won't be an issue since the accident wasn't his fault.

AND...... SHOOT!

What about a slightly used sti?
now between the camaro and genesis, id have the camaro, just for the fact that i get a V6 and more power for a similar price, and about the same fuel economy, ive driven an ss, andd visability is bad but once your used too it its a fine car to drive.
Also consider a mustang v6 with the performance package.

This country can’t be knocked out with one punch. We get right back up again and when we do the world is going to hear the roar of our engines. Yeah, it’s halftime America. And, our second half is about to begin.

V6 Camaro is a good all-rounder. A Pentastar Challenger might be a good choice as well, especially if a droptop isn't a must-have but interior room and decent visibility is.

I'll be the first to admit that there are some things the F-Series does better than the Silverado. And by that I mean "donate it's back axle to the company's sporty car."

SRT: My dad does not like used cars at all. And my dad does not like the Mustang, I don't know why but he just does coffee
TVOD: If the Pentastar Challenger did come with a 6-speed, it could be considered.

RE: Camaro vs Gensis Coupe
I like the Genesis, but I doubt that it will have the long-term durability of the Camaro regardless of the warranty. GM has got body build down right and the 3.6 liter V6 is world class. Ten years from now, if either lasts that long, there will be people who still ache for the Camaro. The tight seams, narrow gaps and rust free body of the Camaro will pay long-term dividends. I'm a Hyundai fan. I acknowledge they do a lot right and have markedly improved. But market demand is much better for the Camaro and the Camaro has a rock solid body. However, no unibody convertible has the solidity of a hardtop coupe. I'd recommend against a soft-top convertible for long-term ownership as a daily driver.

I'd ask insurance costs first. Any savings you might capture with fuel economy or maintenance could easily be consumed by insurance cost differences.

If it hasn't been offered with one to this point it will be. How long you have till your dad buys?

I like the Camaro option. He likes it, its a manual, and anything else that is smaller is rougher to ride in.

Let him get the Camaro. Not the convertible though. The top has issues.

Then once that's done spend 399.00 for a Trifecta tune and get you about 375HP stock. rockon

“The build sheet is the wish list of any racer: lightweight high-revving dry-sump LS7 engine; carbon-ceramic brakes; integrated coolers; true aerodynamic downforce, and a significant reduction in curb weight. This car could only come from Chevrolet, and could only be called the Z/28.”

What Spook said!

If you can't go with the Camaro, you have to go Mustang or Challenger. Anything but Hyundai.

Between the Genesis and the Camaro, easy one for me, the Camaro. The Camaro looks freakin' hot and backs it with great performance. If I was your dad, I would take a hard look at the Challenger and Mustang too.
