General Motors will suspend production of the Chevrolet Volt extended-range electric vehicle for five weeks, beginning March 19, to manage rising inventories of the one-of-a-kind car.

“We are taking some downtime to ensure proper inventory levels,” says GM spokesman Chris Lee.

I guess they can't sell them. Their price is really killing the sales of what is an awesome car.

Precisely. What makes it look worse for the Focus is the fact that it is literally the SAME PRICE as a Volt now. 76 muthafuckin miles and "Find On Road Dead" will be a literal term

Is anyone really surprised?? Electric cars on whole don't sell well not just the Volt. It's like any new technology. Just wait for $5.00 gasoline and these things will be selling like Malibu's and Cruzes.

Nobody is going to spend $40K on a mainstream compact no matter how efficient or green it is.

The problem Focus vs Volt comparison is that if the Focus EV flops you still have a successful car in the Focus. When you have sales volume issues with the Volt there is no where to hide.

The question becomes, has irreparable damage been done to the Volt name.

That is the whole idea bhind flexible manufacturing that can be reprogrammed for gas, PHEV or BEV Focus.


And yes, volt name has suffered quite a bit because GM was not smart in their multi billion dollar strategy.
