Toyota captures five of the 10 spots on this year’s Consumer Reports Top Picks list
Consumer Reports
Photo credit: Toyota February 28, 2012 By: CF staff A redesigned, significantly improved Camry Hybrid has helped Toyota capture five of the 10 spots on this year’s Top Picks list. The other Toyotas that made the cut are the Prius hybrid, the Highlander and RAV4 SUVs, and the Sienna minivan. This is the first time since 2003 that one brand has so dominated the list. In addition to the Camry and Highlander, two other new picks are the Hyundai Sonata and the redesigned Subaru Impreza. The other selections are returning models: the Chevrolet Avalanche, Ford Mustang, and Infiniti G. Read more. Congrats to Toyota but Consumer Reports is still laughable in my opinion and the only Toyota's I would consider are the Tacoma and FJ-LandCruiser. Other than those two, I have no desire to ever own a new Toyota.

Isn't the Avalanche out of production?
Can't say I agree with the entire list, but I can't necessarily disagree either. CR is still a joke, and will never be taken seriously by me. EDIT: Never mind, the Av is still on Chevy's site. I swore I read a while back they were ending production on it... __________________________________________________

My consumers report tells me that consumers report is not a reliable source for consumers reports, since they didn't bother to actually test a bunch of cars before they gave them the thumbs up/down. Little red circle thingy for them.

BasiliskSt;184141 Wrote:CR back to business as usual. Remember that CR only surveys its subscribers - who most likely bought their vehicles based upon CR recommendations to begin with. So in all reality, the CR list is just a validation of itself in order to perpetuate its own existence. And as most CR readers are lemmings who are afraid to make any decision without getting CR's recommendation first... well, you see where this is going. Toyota buyers are happy with their cars because CR tells them they should be happy - so they convince themselves that they are happy and diligently report that they are happy, and CR says "See, we told you so!" Then CR publishes its skewed survey results showing Toyota taking half the top spots and the lemmings say "Ooooh...you were right! You are always right!" I'd like to LMAO at CR, but I can't. I actually admire the scam they have going. It generates a ton of money for them (under the guise of being a non-profit, no less) and keeps them in business. It's a foolproof model because it relies on easily-led fools for survival - and there is no shortage of fools in this world.

Stating that not making a profit is proof of objectivity is total nonsense.
Some examples to debunk that: The PRAVDA did not make an evil capitalist profit. Did that mean everything they wrote was objective? PETA is a non-profit organization. Would any of you expect them to publish a fair and unbiased assessment of the meat packing industry? The premise floated by Consumer Reports is a logical fallacy. Of course, I would expect that kind of reasoning from a survey that does not comment about random sampling or confidence intervals. |
