RE: AW reviews 2012 Focus SE 5 door MyFordTouch, doesn't like it.
It does diminish Autoweek that they got the name of the system installed wrong.

But the criticism is also true that the base system should apparently be more intuitive.

If written correctly the article should actually drive readers to the higher line MyFordTouch rather than the actually tested MyFord system. The bad part of the story is that it has the opposite effect of the truth.

Oh and as for cup holders? It's amazing how important they are for consumers judging cars. The Focus does have slots in both the front doors (more can size) and the console. I'm usually bothered by cup holders that are too shallow (so they don't hold tall cups from tipping) rather than too small of diameter. Anyone have real world experience with a new Focus beyond the test drive? Cars are different in daily life than test drive.

I have to admit, I don't care for cup holders in my car. My Gatorade or water will roll around in the passenger seat or on the floor.

This thread has enough bait for Jesus' tackle box

“The build sheet is the wish list of any racer: lightweight high-revving dry-sump LS7 engine; carbon-ceramic brakes; integrated coolers; true aerodynamic downforce, and a significant reduction in curb weight. This car could only come from Chevrolet, and could only be called the Z/28.”

Don't let women review cars.

The majority of the article is whining about the cupholders, and her being confused by the center stack.

Stupid bitch, get back in the kitchen and make me a sandwich!

I see that this is like a feeding frenzy for the mopar fans…..over one SINGLE persons frustration with a loaded car with lots of features…..oh, and a cup holder gripe. (cough, reaching...cough-cough!!!)

LOL

Yeah, hey Ford fans, lets throw the poor mopes a bone and concede a loss here.
Heaven forbid we should find fault with ONE single persons review, and DEBATE it…..no matter how ridiculous.

So, no more chum in the water from this Fordie smile

Have fun ladies.

Well, let me just say that her gripe about the cupholder is baseless, her lack of knowledge of which infotainment system the car was equipped with is inexcusable, BUT her gripe about MyFord is spot-on:

Here is a pic of this morning's Extra Large 7-11 Coffee in the "smallish" cupholder of a 2012 Focus:

For visual reference, here is that same cup of coffee next to my PC (Note Wings' post above on the screen):

As for the MyFord center stack - not the MyFord Touch - yeah, it's too busy:

Now we can move on.

I digress a bit.

From Edmunds:

2012 Ford Focus Sedan Features & Specs

SE Sedan
(2.0L 4-cyl. 5-speed Manual)

Convenience

Front console with storage
Front cupholders
Front door pockets
Remote trunk release
Retained accessory power
Front seatback storage
Electric speed-proportional power steering
12V front power outlet(s)
Tilt and telescopic steering wheel
Audio controls on steering wheel

[emphasis added by me]

http://www.edmunds.com/ford/focus/2012/f...=101364702

I have a base trim level Mercury Montego that I inherited from my father with audio controls on the steering wheel. One pushes the "on" button and is able to control station selection and volume while keeping their hands on the wheel.

Why, for the love of God, would anyone want to do that differently?

That's the cellphone inspired keypad. I didn't find it that hard to operate in a Focus test drive. I used the steering wheel mounted controls. Similar controls are in the Fiesta. (When I test drive I only use the radio briefly as I want to hear the car not the radio for evaluating NVH.) You get used to whatever the buttons are with ownership anyway.

Given the photos above, I'm not persuaded the reviewer was much of an automobile reviewer.

Couple of remarks.

Yes, Ford did try to mirror designs of cell phone layouts and functionality, especially in a segment populated with a generation that grew up having cell phones. So we should not be shocked if a middle aged women took issue with something she had little time to use.

Burg,
I am jealous that you did not even have to go out in the cold to take those pics, while at work WINK

Mopar74,
You are one of the more objective mopar fans here, keep up the great work.
