Sergio Marchionne, CEO of both Fiat and Chrysler Group, said that while he's pleased with the re-launch of the Fiat brand in North America last year, he was "incredibly naive" to think he'd sell 50,000 of the tiny cars in the U.S. in 2011.

The company sold only 19,769 Fiat 500's in the U.S. last year. But Marchionne said the huge miss of the sales target was not a problem.
He said he chose the original sales target hoping to beat the 45,644 cars sold of the popular Mini Cooper, sold in 2010.

At least he's honest. I think the marketing has a bit to do with it. J.Lo didn't help it. The car could've been a bit more aggressive but its not a bad start.

Incredibly naive....yeah, thats about right. Its a vehicle that DESPERATELY needs a redesign to compete in America. Still though, selling as many as it did, I think Fiat did pretty damn good.

Yeh. Also consider it is only n limited markets makes it even better. In the end I think this will end up being a success.

The best there was and the best there ever will be.

20,000 sold is still excellent for such a niche vehicle!

J lo rofl

“The build sheet is the wish list of any racer: lightweight high-revving dry-sump LS7 engine; carbon-ceramic brakes; integrated coolers; true aerodynamic downforce, and a significant reduction in curb weight. This car could only come from Chevrolet, and could only be called the Z/28.”

They should of brought more than just the 500 over if they wanted to really sell

I love how Mini's handle and judging by the shape and reviews, it ain't gonna touch Mini's in any major way.

Shame they didn't get a slather of Italian cars over, what were they thinking when they decided to say "Let's go after Mini crowd w/the 500"
