The BLS flopped and it was a Euro model. A 5 series is bigger than a CTS and the original CTS flopped. A Benz SL is roughly the same size as the XLR was and it flopped.

Size isn't really the problem and Europeans love Fords which are sold under a very American name.

Jeeps sold well in Ireland, especially the JGC.

Cadillac hasn't done well because Cadillac sold shit and charged more for it over there. It was worse in the UK and Ireland because some didn't even come with drive side conversions.

oldshurst442;167400 Wrote:Cadillac hasnt done well in Europe largelly because Cadillac builds LARGE cars. Small european streets especially in villages, cant handle Cadillacs. For those who watch TOP GEAR, will realize when they test the American cars, they always denounce the way they handle and HOW BIG they are. The other point is that Europeans are more loyal to their brands. The French prefer Renaults and Citroens compared to VWs and Germans LOVE their Mercs and BMWs. Listen to TOP GEAR and realize those guys prefer English cars. We here fight what makes a car an American car(ACCORDS and Camrys) and bitch that the Camaro is BUILT in Canada, but those buffoons on TOP GEAR still talk like Rolls is British. Soooo all to say that Cadillac doesnt sell in Europe, because Europeans WILL never buy AMERICAN. The only Europeans that buy American cars are the ones the WANT AMERICANA and buy cars that personify that image the best: MUSTANGS and CORVETTES and JEEPS.

Good post. And I agree. My issue is that for some reason people want to focus on Western EUROPE when Eastern Europe is the market with the greatest growth potential of the two. Cadillac is LOVED in Russia and previous Soviet territories.

Cadillac is doing well in China .. the XTS is large enuff to be Chauffeur driven.. as that is the true moniker in that country as to prestige.. The SRX and CTS are successful there too. The ATS will probably sell like gangbusters

Cadillac could do well in OZ... Believe it. Holden Entry... Opel as the Mid.. and Cadillac as the Top End.

Cadillac could do well in South America. Chevy as the Entry... Opel as the Mid.. and Cadillac as the Top end.

Isnt GM ready for Russia? I thought I read somewhere that GM sees Russia, India and China as the next big markets. We already know what GM is doing in China, I was under the impression that GM is preparing for the Indian market and Russian market. Also didnt they buy or make agreements with Lada?

GM is in Russia and China, but exploiting those markets could reap huge rewards for GM.

Cadillac will have to compete in those markets, they don't really have a chance anywhere else. GM sank the nameplate elsewhere.

Fords sold in Europe are built in Europe. They are designed in Europe and up until "One Ford," built for Europe. I don't see any Taurus, F150s, or Crown Vics running around Hamburg.

Opel and Chevy are doing well there too. Cadillacs were being built here. The only exception was the BLS which didn't sell well because it was a blatant rebadge of the 9-3, and Europeans knu it. There was also the RHD issue for all Cadillac in Europe with that one exception. Again.. as Hurst said. Europeans, unlike Americans are actually loyal to their makers. Something to do with self-preservation and their unemployment rate. Americans should learn that one thing at least.

The Europeans are very aware of the nameplate, Ford that is, and where the company is from. It's the same general thing as Toyota North America etc.

I wouldn't say they are anymore loyal Casa. The British industry was let go, the French bailed theirs out and nationalized it, and so forth and so on. The Germans have been legitimately successful.

What are U saying?? That people are unaware that Opel/Chevy are owned by General Motors??? Their market share is larger than Ford's. It's not about the name plate it's about the massive IG Metall that builds them and the lack of hate for the union that drives their country's manufacturing base.

The Germans?? The largest Automaker in Europe/German, is partially owned by their Gov.

No people are aware of them and where they are from. I lived where it was Vauxhaul btw. In some Western European countries the government is more pro active than any union.

What's your point? Mine is that for the most part the Europeans are no more loyal based on the fact the European governemnts have been bailing out their companies for years and the UK has no industry to speak of after having the 4 th largest company in the world at one point.
