Sure, you might be able to pull off 31mpg or better while traveling, but most drive city, and that number is nothing to brag about.
I borrowed my buddies V6 stang for a week while he was in Germany, and even with lots of highway driving, I still only managed about 23mpg.

An I4 EB will not only improve hwy, but drastically improve city, bringing the avg much higher, closer to 30mpg.

I have also read that the direct gas injection that goes along with ecoboost provides a neat way to enable ICE stop/start. Apparently, the piston is set in a position that allows for an injection and spark that gets the whole system going. This can be done without harm, once the ICE is at operating temperature. One must keep in mind that a direct injected charge is fully atomized out of the injector and, thus, need no cylinder motion to draw air for mixing as in a PFI system. I suppose it is a quasi-Coffman starter. I think stop/start can get about a 10% gain in the city number.

The thought of a 4 cylinder and a Mustang makes me cringe but Ford's EcoBost engine has been great so hopefully this new model will be great too.

I was thinking more along the lines of the 2.3L with its 86 road eating hp.

The EcoBoost will certainly not be anything like that but when I think 4cylinder Mustang I remember the 86hp.

Yeah, but people and cars weren't as fat in the 80s. That 86hp in the 80s was like 120hp now.
