RE: New Ford Fusion Brings More Technology, Expected Triple Crown of Best-in-Class Gas, Hybrid, Plug-In Efficiency
Interestingly enough, even with much better hybrid fuel economy, the value equation does not really change much, because the standard gasoline fuel economy gets much better as well, so your net savings is modest.
But I agree, that having the 100mpg PHEV does make more sense, but again, based on the price difference. Dang, all told, this is a mid sized family sedan (energi model) that looks great and offers incredible driving technology and features found nowhere else -- all while getting what amounts to a minimum mpg of 45.5, all the way up to the 100mpg rating when charging a lot. Based on that, it is hard to fault the increased PHEV price, so the value aspect means little to some who just want to change the world with incredible abilities. Color me impressed. This changes things for me much more than a Volt PHEV or ANY BEV. ======= Call it the Lincoln Apology Momentum and Employee Appreciation Sale Spectacular. Or, just....ummmm.....LAMEASS |

I just don't understand the why use the 2.5 engine anymore.
Also, I'm a little worried about the 2.0 not being able to stack up to the turbos that the Koreans and GM are using in their mid-sized cars. Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves? Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here? Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change? |

I can't find fault with a person buying either a Malibu or Fusion. For the sake of creating an argument, which is the better choice?
Malibu with E-assist? or Fusion with 1.6 liter ecoboost? It seems like a good comparison in that the fuel economy numbers are close. |

As always U kno this is how I truly feel. As for that comparison, I'm all for it. I think Chevy takes the E-Assist route to get to it's F/E numbers while Ford uses the Turbo.. Same results I'm betting. ![]() |

For the sake of creating an argument, which is the better choice? It is an interesting comparison because both technologies tend to gain greater fuel economy over conventional in constant load states where the throttle is not being blipped from POT to WOT a lot. This second variable load state is where having a second E-motor in the system gains great city fuel economy numbers, for Ford or Toyota, they offer full hybrids. GM has nothing to fill this slot. However, GM could add an E-axle to substitute for the present rear axle in their FWD products and end up with a full hybrid as an AWD option. The problem with that is how do they let the ICE use an Atkinson cycle in that configuration. Or they could introduce FWD 2 Mode - this would be my hope. It is a hard choice. My guess is that the Malibu Eco fuel economy would hold up better in response to hard driving than the Fusion ecoboost. The Malibu has a reservior (battery) to tap into to meet full gas pedal depression and keep the ICE somewhat efficient. Ecoboost relies on the gas pedal being kept under 50% depression to take advantage of the 100% throttle opening delivered by direct gas injection operating in lean mode. Anyhow, it is great to see new technology being tried by the D3. |

3 gasoline versions
Hybrid PHEV All from the same car chassis. And I too am all for the D3 dominating the market, with Ford easily dominating the electrification market. 100mpg mid family sedan with excellent driving dynamics. NICE

RE: New Ford Fusion Brings More Technology, Expected Triple Crown of Best-in-Class Gas, Hybrid, Plug-In Efficiency
McLovin;164443 Wrote:3 gasoline versions Ford should get notice, IMHO With a combined fuel economy of about 45 mpg for the Fusion hybrid in combination with offering a BEV Focus, it should be apparent that Ford has passed Toyota in vehicle electrification. The Prius is a dedicated fuel economy platform that uses a series parallel hybrid powertrain. For example, if Toyota substituted a small gasoline only ICE the Prius would, in all probablity beat compact such as the Cruze, Elantra, Focus by a small margin. Ford is putting its electric or hybrid electric powertrains in platforms that have appeal for both driving dynamics and styling. When compared on that playing field - see 20112 Camry Hybrid vs 2013 Fusion hybrid - Ford is winning. |
