Well boys, my Pontiac is in the body shop for a few days getting a new front bumper put on after a jackass backed his pickup truck and stuck the hitch in the front end, so I got me a rental, a Ford Fusion. I have to say, this car is pretty nice, I'm impressed with the power from the V6, the way it handles on the road is nice and the interior while simple is nice, especially with the brushed aluminum look on the dash. This car is a suitable short term replacement for my Grand Prix.

Not long ago I had an '11 Malibu for a rental. I could've had the Fusion but I requested the Malibu. I hadn't driven it before.

I won't muddle this thread (although I probably won't start one either), but my impressions were extremely positive.

The V6 has a lot of get up and go, my only beef so far is the 6-speed auto seems shakey when downshifting, it doesn't seem to know which gear to be in.

I think it's a sign of how serious Ford and GM are right now. The Fusion and Malibu are both perfectly competent vehicles, yet both are going to be all new next year. The old Detroit would let them rot into irrelevance before a complete redesign.

I test drove an '09 Fusion before buying my last Malibu, it was a descent car but the newer model is far superior. I drove a '11 Fusion on a small trip to Winston Salem a little while back, solid car for sure.

ncguy doesn't hate Ford at all. He compliments them quite often.

As far as the Fusion goes, it is an awesome car and an incredibly solid offering the midsize segment. I like how quiet it is and the power delivery is great. I do agree about the down shifting though. It's smooth but just is out of sync.
