Sadly, quite misinformed.

For not much more outlay than a mid-level Civic sedan, my 2011 CSX came with:

2L engine - K20Z2 (~155hp). This is a MUCH overlooked key difference.
17" Alloy Wheels (formerly on the Type-S)
NAV
Bluetooth/handsfree
Leather/heated seats
HID headlights
Fog lights
Sunroof
Paddle shifters (OK I'll admit this one is silly)
Decent stereo with USB input and PC card slot
Better treatment at Acura dealers than Honda dealers
More attractive and distinctive styling (my opinion)
...etc. (there's more, but you get the point).

Frank

LMAO.....your Acura CSX has the same exact engine as the Civic in Japan. Hope you didn't really think you got a special "Acura" engine.

In terms of sales volume and the public's perception, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and Lexus are the three top players in the premium automotive sector, with Audi also rising in ranks.
For further proof, just take a look at which 3 brands Audi consistently targets in their commercials.
Anybody who denies that Lexus is a top-tier luxury brand is a fool, plain and simple. Somebody's earlier comment about Lexus "not even being a luxury brand" is downright laughable. Plus, why does everybody care for where the name came from so much? Take a survey of anybody in the market for a luxury car and you'll find that is plays zero role in the buying process.

Hey BP, don't let the facts get in the way!

Caddy YTD = 136,000
Audi YTD = 104,906

Oh yea, but then again you also think the ct200h is a luxury car also! Talk about laughable!

Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves? Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here? Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?

BP - anywhere you go on this planet:

A Mercedes is a Mercedes
A BMW is a BMW
A Jaguar is a Jaguar
A Cadillac is a Cadillac
An Audi is an Audi
A Porsche is a Porsche

But there are MANY places on this planet where:

A Lexus is sold as a Toyota
An Infiniti is sold as a Nissan
An Acura is sold as Honda

The Japanese "luxury" brands only exist in the North American market with the exception of Lexus. And in Lexus's case, it has been recently argued that it is failing. It has been a failure in Japan, and it has been a failure in Europe. Enough so that Akio Toyoda has admitted the problem and yet still can't tell you exactly what Lexus stands for.

I do believe that Toyota will eventually sort this out. But for the moment, as the man said "facts is facts." There are many consumers out there who value heritage more than image - like me, for example. Lexus has no heritage. Mercedes has it by the boatload. That's the difference.

What makes Cadillac a Cadillac?
With the exception of CTS, all the models are buttered up Chevys.

Not true. Platform sharing is one thing, pure rebadging is another. This is why I said Lexus, in the last 5 years, finally became its own brand. The LS is no longer sold as a Toyota, neither is the GS or IS. The ES is produced specifically for the North American market and while it has Camry underpinings, it does not share sheetmetal or any of the visible interior components.

Lexus "trucks" are a different story. The RX is still available as a Toyota Harrier in other markets, and the LX and GX are both rebadged Land Cruisers. They don't even differentiate their powertrains from the Toyota versions. At least the Cadillac Escalade has a different interior, totally unique dashboard, and a version of the 6.2 liter engine not shared with any other GMT900 variant.

Cadillac lost its way for a while, no doubt about it. But the fact remains that I cannot buy a Cadillac anywhere on this planet that wears a different badge for a regional market. I cannot say this about Lexus, Infiniti or Acura.

Yes, but I don't live in Japan.
The mainstream Civic line in North America does not have that engine. It has a 1.8l.

What is the point of pointing out something not even available in our market? Now that's dumb dumb dumb.

Or are you making fun of the North America Civic owners because they do not have your JDM Civic engine?
As for myself, I am very aware of the difference between the engines. That is one reason I bought a CSX!

That's your opinion. I am totally happy with my CSX... it's actually my second one... I had a 2006 (the first model year)... I liked it so much, less than 5 years later i bought a 2011 (the last model year)... and it a has stuff my 06 didn't have... little things like Leather, HID, NAV, Bluetooth, XM radio, 17" wheels, fogs, VSA... for LESS actually than I paid for my first one in '06. And a lot less than a Civic SI Sedan.
FYI I am not unfamiliar with Honda products. The list of new cars I have owned is:
75 Civic
79 Accord
84 Prelude
87 Integra
97 EL
06 CSX
11 CSX

Not a single one did I ever regret buying....

I can understand your point but I don't believe it bears much relevance. Lexus was the highest selling luxury automaker in the U.S. for over a decade. I believe the product itself speaks more to consumers than heritage. Of course this depends on the regional market and customer demographic for each model, but the biggest reason for Lexus' decreasing sales lately is its aging product line. You may not believe that Lexus has much brand heritage consumer perception says otherwise. Tell anybody you own a Lexus and respect is given immediately.

I think a lot of that has to do with reliability. The Germans were never the most reliable cars until Lexus came and changed that. Lexus forced the Germans that they need to make reliable cars to compete especially in volume sales.
