Think about it, a lot of people my age know what the Acura Integra is, and I'm sure people in their 20-30s know what the Integra is or at least owned one. RSX is also a decent name and probably more well known than the Integra.
ILX makes me think of a computer, not a car. So to sum it up, it's a stupid name and hopefully the car will be decent.

Zeep - you answered your own question without realizing it. Acura hired a bunch of business grads who somehow convinced Honda that Acura's "brand image" was suffering because people knew what a Legend or an Integra was, but didn't know what "Acura" was. They changed their naming strategy to focus on the brand name rather than the model. And thus, the "Legend" became the "RL", while the Integra became the "RSX" (which only worked because the car was so damn good")... but Acura decided such a model was beneath their luxury image and so they killed it. FAIL!!!

rant

Mazda did the same thing, which is why the cars are known as "Mazda3's" and "Mazda6's". In reality, the 3's full name is the Mazda Mazda3. facepalm

Why do you think so many automakers are screwed up? Because they have people who have never actually sold cars for a living making marketing decisions. Perhaps if these idiots had some actual retail experience, they wouldn't have such problems.

brickwall

ILX??? idk What a fuckin' joke.

Weren't most of Mazda's cars just named numbers anyways? Not like Mazda Mazda3 (try saying it fast over and over again :brickwallsmile like you said but if I can remember off the top of my head weren't the only Mazdas with normal names in recent memory the Protege and Miata?

Still the Mazda 2/3/5/6 whatever names aren't as bad as some other (Cough Cadillac, Lincoln and Land Rover, ACURA COUGH COUGH)

You are absolutely right - which is why the Miata name has been dropped from the car, the "626" as a standalone model name became the "Mazda6", the Protege became the "Mazda3". This bullshit started when some business grad geek did a study that showed people knew what an "RX-7" was, but couldn't tell you who built it.

I was working for Mazda when that study occurred. The factory reps told us about it, and how it would affect Mazda's naming strategy going forward. Those of us at the dealer level were like "You guys ARE kidding, right?"

Epic fails. Every one of them.

Yet this doesn't apply to Toyota, Honda, Hyundai, Volkswagen, Ford and some mainstream brands... Everybody I know knows who makes the Camry, Jetta, and Accord.

It was the dumbest decision Mazda has ever made to go with numbers instead of names. I hate it to this day. The Protege (Familia), Premacy, Atenza, Axela, Miata, Millenia, Xedos were all cool names. Now we are stuck with numbers.

.........

lmao

I had high hopes when I heard the RSX was coming back. The RSX was an amazing little FWD car, sold well, and would've done great things for Acura, had it not been killed. I'm not sure what to say about this company anymore. We'll see some concepts soon, that will paint a picture.

Seriously, even though Acura had more of a 'tuner' image than 'luxury', what difference does it make? Acura commanded a higher price, was doing well against the competition and made Honda loads of money. You think Porsche is gonna change their image up because BMW is known more for luxury and Porsche more for sport? Dumbassesfacepalm

Have you not seen the Panamera? rofl

“The build sheet is the wish list of any racer: lightweight high-revving dry-sump LS7 engine; carbon-ceramic brakes; integrated coolers; true aerodynamic downforce, and a significant reduction in curb weight. This car could only come from Chevrolet, and could only be called the Z/28.”

I've heard that 2012 could be the last year of the TSX. TSX and TL would likely be replaced with one model in this new strategy.

Honda is considering a single global Accord and not a dedicated Euro/American model. This means that the US Accord would shrink in size. This could be a good thing if you thought that the 8G Accord was too large for the class.

Oh I so wish our good old honda fan boy from AWCC/MT was here to see the day that a re-badged civic would became an acura!

I was laughing so hard the first time I saw an acura csx in Quebec City! I couldn't believe someone would be so stupid to buy one!

Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves? Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here? Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?

Have you ever seen an acura csx? The true and actual difference is an "a" and not a "h" on the hood.

I saw one here in Annapolis, MD. Had to do a double take, as did my sister after she saw me looking clueless. She pointed out the obvious for me. "Isn't that a Civic?" "Yeah...well no. Its an Acura....CSX." "No it's not, it's a Civic boy. I thought you knew your cars." "Tell that to the idiot who bought a Civic for like 10 grand more."
Redsky, shut it, you're making yourself look worse.

Redsky makes a point. Acura, Lincoln, Buick, Cadillac aren't exactly luxury. Cadillac is knocking down the door though.
