Autoblog Hyundai Equus: Calls it "Generic Knock-Off... Stops Short of Great Luxury" - Cmicasa the GreatXvX - 09-08-2011 04:50 PM

Quote:We have to admit, we viewed the Equus as something of a generic knockoff design-wise...

Quote:...We do have some nits to pick with our big white whale, however. Others have mentioned this, but it's worth pointing out again – the adjustable lumbar support seems to be in perpetual state of overinflation. No matter how much we tinker with the air bladder controls, it just feels too prominent on our lower backs. It's so uncomfortable that it's led to both your author and Editor-In-Chief Neff to ponder drastic, pin-shaped countermeasures.

Quote:Overall, our Equus Ultimate succeeds at feeling like a great value, but stops short of feeling like a great full-size luxury sedan.

Wow.. exactly what I want from my $65K Luxury car... to feel like a VALUE... but stop short of being a Luxo sedan. roll eyes

Shit.. why wouldn't I just buy a Ford Taurus.. It looks better... is probably more reliable... is domestic... smells better... cost less... and is actually meant to "stop short of being a Luxo."

Quote:We have to admit, we viewed the Equus as something of a generic knockoff design-wise, but our conversations suggest that the general buying public doesn't feel the same way (or doesn't care).

Quote:Unlike our first encounter with the Equus At Your Service valet program, our most recent experience went off without any issue. We made the appointment with the Equus Apple iPad app, received a confirmation call and e-mail from the selected dealer (Glassman Hyundai in Southfield, Michigan), followed by another call the day before the service to confirm the time and what our loaner vehicle would be. The day of our service, the dealership kindly called to say that a representative was on the way, and about 15 minutes later, a service technician arrived and handed over the keys to a clean, detailed 2011 Hyundai Genesis sedan. A few hours later, the dealer called again, saying our car was ready, and that the vehicles would be swapped once more. Before returning the Equus to us, Glassman washed and vacuumed it. If this is the sort of service we (and other Equus buyers) can routinely expect, it goes a long way in bettering the overall ownership experience.

:2thumbsup:

Thats nothing special.. Aside from the iPad app to schedule the appointment, our chevy dealership routinely does this. rofl

And since Hyundai has already decided to do away with the iPad, that advantage is dead.

As for the app, everybody is going to offer one eventually.

"Hyundai Luxury" = lmao

Hyundai Equus Receives J.D. Power and Associates 2011 APEAL Award

Laugh all you want, but the Equus has many satisfied customers, from a car that was never designed for this market. It will only get better with the next generation Equus that is due soon.

Am I the only one that would rather spend the $65K on a slightly smaller car from a real luxury brand? The XF, 5-Series, and E CLass are all far more appealing to me at this price point.

RE: Autoblog Hyundai Equus: Calls it "Generic Knock-Off... Stops Short of Great Luxury" - RightWD - 09-09-2011 08:11 AM

You wouldn't be the only one, but you could say that same for a lot of vehicles. You could spend $60K+ on a Yukon or you could buy an X5, M-Class, etc. You could do a lot of things with that kind of cash, but you won't get space or features that the Equus offers. In this segment, the Equus simply can't be beat. No matter how many people cherry pick comments from a review.

Uh-huh... I can only speak for the dealers here in Freehold, NJ. Go to the Lexus, Mercedes, and BMW dealerships and look at the ambience, the amenities, the overall after-sale experience they offer. Then visit the toilet bowl that is our local Hyundai dealership. Come in for service and park your $65,000 Equus next to a POS 10-year old Accent being held together with duct tape. Have fun with the massive, brutal depreciation that Hyundais suffer.

"Hyundai" is not a brand name that can justify a $65K car. They should have made "Genesis" a separate brand and only sold it through Hyundai dealers that were in the top 10% of Hyundai dealers for CSI and cosmetic appearance (since they didn't want to create a separate sales channel.)

I'm sorry, but what point are you trying to make here? Yeah the Lexus and BMW dealerships are certainly nicer than the average Hyundai dealership, but the customer pays for that through inflated car prices. Nevermind the fact that not all Hyundai dealerships actually sell the Equus, an Equus owner never steps foot in a Hyundai dealership anyway.

Every single luxo barge on the face of the planet has horrible depreciation. So I ask again, what is your point? Have you even checked the resale values of the Genesis? They are very strong.

You may not think that Hyundai can sell a $65K car, but you'd be wrong as sales are better than expected. And the owners of these cars are all satisfied as evidenced by the surveys. Autoblog even said so(in not so many words) in their review.

Just curious, but how exactly do you go about buying the thing?
