Project A or Something else?? - 52Chevy - 05-04-2011 11:09 PM I would really like to start working on a project. I don't have a lot of money, but I would like to start putting some of my extra money into something thats worth it. To start. I have a 52 Chevy Pickup, all original(except paint). The body is in GREAT shape, but it doesn't run. I found a frame for it that has a custom 4 link coil-over suspension with a 9-inch ford rear axle. I haven't looked into a price on it yet, but that is just asking for some power. A motor wouldn't really be an issue it would be the time I would have to put into it. That seems to be the most feasible of my options, as I already have a good start. Or I could look for a car to buy and mod that a little bit. Cars I would consider. early 90's Camaro/Firebird late 80's/Early 90's Mustang thats all I can think of at the moment. The good part about buying a car would be that I could probably drive it while modding it. I couldn't drive the truck really until its done. The truck is probably also going to cost me a lot more. I don't know. I really just want to start working on something, I don't really plan on getting a new car unless I have to as far as a daily driver goes. RE: Project A or Something else?? - REVolution - 05-04-2011 11:15 PM That is a toss up. It really depends on how much you want to spend at the moment and in the long run. I like the idea of the old pick up as it would be a bit more fulfilling and rewarding when you start it and drive it after you put that motor in. The 80's-90's Chevy/Ford wouldn't be a bad idea except for finding something that is clean. RE: Project A or Something else?? - 52Chevy - 05-04-2011 11:20 PM Yeah, I don't really care how much money is in it in the end. I don't have a lot at a time, but I plan on putting a little away at a time for any large purchase that I need. And then buying small stuff here and there. I agree the pickup would be super fulfiling/rewarding, especially since it was my grandpa's. So its been in the family since it was brand new(he might have been the second owner but I don't think so). RE: Project A or Something else?? - REVolution - 05-04-2011 11:31 PM I say concentrate on the truck. Once you get those muscle cars, you keep adding money into them with intakes, exhausts, flywheels, clutches, tires, wheels brakes, suspension, etc. The truck once you put it together, its fairly stock and needs less and is a classic. If you got the money then by all means do what you want. I got to the point with my RX where in my eyes, its done. There is nothing I want to do to it any more other than a swap which isn't going to happen any time soon so it stays. If I had an old classic, it wouldn't take much for it to be done. Who cares if it doesn't have the power of the cars that are out now, it has its own presence and soul. I say stick with the truck, you'll have something to pass down to your kids or keep in your family. RE: Project A or Something else?? - 52Chevy - 05-04-2011 11:48 PM Well with the truck I have 2(or 3 options) Option 1: Keep it all stock get it up and running. This would involve so motor work, probably brakes a little tranny work to make sure its not seized up. And then redoing the interio. Which pretty much involves a seat. Option 2: But the body on this new frame, with all new drive train. Something newer GM with some a bit of power, a good engine/trans combo. Some nice wheels and tires and good to go. I know theres a lot more to it than that but thats the general idea. Option 3: Pretty much do both of those options above? haha. There isn't much of a body to the chassy for sale. thats for sale i think a cab and 2 fenders maybe. I could then have 1 that is fast and 1 that is just a cruiser, and numbers matching. RE: Project A or Something else?? - Super Sport - 05-04-2011 11:52 PM I'm tellin ya, a Cutlass Ciera with a 3800 S/C swap! RE: Project A or Something else?? - REVolution - 05-04-2011 11:52 PM I'd say do both and get it done the right way. RE: Project A or Something else?? - 52Chevy - 05-04-2011 11:55 PM I would really love to!! Either way I want to find out a price for the frame just to know. And yes Jeff, that would be great! Lets get a car! RE: Project A or Something else?? - 52Chevy - 06-02-2011 11:52 PM The chassi that I found is $1500. So I don't think I'll be doing that any time soon, I also probably won't be able to even work on the truck much this summer as I have other things I have to do, such as fix my girlfriends car and move. RE: Project A or Something else?? - TomHaddin1212 - 06-13-2011 07:18 AM Its great that I like this car very much and I had planned from many of time earlier to buy this car. I just loved it too much. RE: Project A or Something else?? - bojangles beast - 06-13-2011 08:01 AM I say keep and redo the truck. It would also be cool to find turbo ecotec so that it stands out from the pack and it won't kill you at the pump a 350 or any other chevy V8 would. RE: Project A or Something else?? - 52Chevy - 06-14-2011 10:30 PM Thats a pretty good call, although I would rarely ever drive it, and I love that V8 growl. I'm financially a long way away from that, and soon I'll be geographically even farther away from it.. And why is it this thread has been spammed twice now?? RE: Project A or Something else?? - MOPAR74 - 02-19-2012 12:42 AM Sooooo.... hows it coming on the project?
RE: Project A or Something else?? - GotMopar? - 02-19-2012 11:11 AM Do the truck!!! It would be a cool alternative to the...I won't say it. RE: Project A or Something else?? - Speed Devil - 02-20-2012 12:54 AM ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() So how much do these trucks cost now?
