2012 Toyota Corolla
The Japanese automaker held its annual meeting Tuesday to show off new products with representatives from more than 1,400 of its U.S. dealers. They included a new Scion tC and Avalon, both headed to showrooms soon.
Tammy Darvish, a Maryland Toyota dealer with four Toyota stores and a Lexus franchise, said the new Corolla will wow owners.
"It is cool. It is hip, it is fun. It is everything that the consumer is not expecting in that segment," Darvish said.
"People are going to fall in love with this car — especially at that price point."
Corolla sales were up 48.1 percent in August and are up 16.9 percent this year. The Corolla is Toyota's second best-selling nameplate in the U.S. behind the Camry.

Also, saying "It is cool. It is hip, it is fun.......everything that the consumer is not expecting in that segment" shows how out of touch this guy really is!

They've let it fall pretty far behind and are riding that 'default purchase' status that they've enjoyed for so long. This segment is getting very competitive, so they're going to need to update it substantially. Never mind 'hip and cool,' it needs to be pulled up by the bootstraps just to be relevant.

The spy photos I've seen said they think that the platform doesn't appear to have been change. Sort of like the "new" camry.

It needs a 6 speed tranny or CVT for sure, and the styling of the current one is just awful IMO.

Corolla owners don't have a very good point of reference for "fun and hip" vehicles, so anything could be considered "fun and hip". Actually, the Corolla is like about as little fun and as little hip you can get.

I'm imagining a shrunken Camry or Avalon or a Yaris on steroids. Either way it will be ugly.
