Chrysler dealers repairing 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engines - car fanatics - 08-13-2012 10:57 AM Source Photo credit: Chrysler Chrysler dealers are replacing malfunctioning cylinder heads on a small percentage of 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engines. And a recent shortage of replacement heads means some customers have been without their vehicles for weeks, some dealers say. Chrysler is paying for their rental cars. A cylinder head covers the engine block, enclosing the cylinders. The engine powers most of Chrysler's best-selling vehicles, including the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Wrangler. By the end of the year, the 3.6-liter Pentastar will be Chrysler's only V-6 engine in production, though a smaller-displacement version is scheduled to appear next year. RE: Chrysler dealers repairing 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engines - Scout - 08-13-2012 11:43 AM Upon further inspection brake peaces were found in the cylinder. On a side note GM says they will take the brake parts back. RE: Chrysler dealers repairing 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engines - The Voice of Doom - 08-13-2012 12:37 PM I'd be interested in knowing if it was an issue with the head itself as opposed to a manufacturing issue with the engine. But it's a letdown any way you slice it. RE: Chrysler dealers repairing 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engines - GotMopar? - 08-13-2012 02:03 PM Sucks for sure. RE: Chrysler dealers repairing 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engines - McLovin - 08-13-2012 04:37 PM A cast-in exhaust manifold, or integrated exhaust manifold, does add a bit of casting complexity, seeing how exhaust cores are sandwiched between water jacket cores and oil drain back cores.....but nothing too scary. But I would not rule out bad castings. RE: Chrysler dealers repairing 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engines - BasiliskSt - 08-14-2012 05:00 AM I haven't seen what the actual defect is, only the symptoms. Is that casting defect speculation or from a source? I assume it's something that could be inspected by testing, especially if they know what to look for?
