Solid update. I see several designs blending together, in a not-too offensive way. Interior looks good, but a bit....over the top with all the color variations and surface undulations (sp?).

Anyway, the problem GM faces, is that it has been dumping such large volumes to rental, that it may never match impala sales ever again, as I doubt they want to continue the rental numbers.

Another thing I've noticed is how american it looks. The D3 are finally getting their identity back, after years of trying to Japanese.

I'm sure with the car probably selling at $5K more to start... they realize that. The old Impala is supposed to stick around for a year or two as a Fleet car.. Personally I think this is a great idea, and like the revival of the Saturn Vue as the Captiva is gonna be a successful way of keeping fleet sales in check using paid for platforms.

Besides all GM needs to sell is about 5-6K a month to RETAIL... and it will still be ahead of the competition

Apart from the basic proportions, I can't see anything else they have in common looks-wise...

I think this is a very attractive big sedan. I like the line in the rear fender and general stance. It looks fully competitive with the Taurus. I kind of doubt it can match the RWD Charger/300's driving prowess or top model power. Impala has an established clientele that likes comfortable, roomy and safe highway cruisers. This will be a substantial improvement for them over the current model.

I like the interior and exterior styling far better than the Avalon or Azera. Avalon is one of my least favorite looking cars both alone and relative to its segment. The Avalon in particular is dreadfully soulless.

The Chevy shows no risk of being soulless in style or execution. It's got some American swagger and confidence.

At least they didn't use the same steering wheels as the 16K Sonic.

So true they really should keep the old impala as a fleet only. My dad recently rented a Captiva while my car was out of comission it was a nice car, not as nice as an equinox but for a rental it worked well.

I see Capitvas down here all the time. It's looking to be a very popular rental crossover.

Wow, good stuff here. This Impala is certainly a better looking sedan than its little brother, the Malibu.

By styling alone it should get some interest.

I would imagine the base model will still be priced competitively, and it has some good bones to hopefully be a good buy.

As not so 'great' as the current model, it is a great bargain for a family that needs/wants new but doesn't want to step up to the better, more expensive choices.

The '04 and earlier Taurus used to be in that market.

With the current Taurus and this new Impala there really isn't a good reason not to include them in a purchase situation for a large(ish), non luxury make, sedan.

I remember when wings and co cried foul theat the impala would ride on the xts platform.. Even went so far as to accuse SPY PHOTOS of looking like the XTS. rofl

But like everything he generally says, he was wrong.

I agree and thank god because the Japanese have shown that they can't design anything worth a frak anymore. USA, USA, USA!!!!!!MJ

This and the Taurus will DESTROY the import competition without a doubt
