Toyota Prius wagon sales in 10 weeks top GM Volt total for 2011 - car fanatics - 01-19-2012 07:41 AM Source Photo credit: Toyota January 19, 2012 By: CF staff Toyota Motor Corp. (7203) scored a victory in 2011 as U.S. deliveries of its Prius v wagon in 10 weeks topped sales of General Motors Co. (GM)’s Chevrolet Volt plug-in hybrid that was available all year. Toyota sold 8,399 of the hybrid wagon, which didn’t arrive at U.S. dealerships until the last week of October, said Carly Schaffner, a spokeswoman for the company. GM delivered 7,671 rechargeable Volts in 2011 and 7,997 in the model’s first 13 months on the market. The Japanese automaker hadn’t distinguished Prius v sales from those of the original one. RE: Toyota Prius wagon sales in 10 weeks top GM Volt total for 2011 - jspookss - 01-19-2012 11:10 AM It took them ten whole weeks to outsell a limited electric vehicle? Wow lame RE: Toyota Prius wagon sales in 10 weeks top GM Volt total for 2011 - jaybird - 01-19-2012 11:26 AM Also, this is sales to dealers not consumers and typically you see sales very high at first as dealers stock inventory. You see a similar trend with the hs250h in its first few months of sales and then they dropped off the fucking earth. RE: Toyota Prius wagon sales in 10 weeks top GM Volt total for 2011 - jaybird - 01-19-2012 11:29 AM I think another question is how many "V" sales are just a substitute of a regular pruis? Based on prius sales numbers, while they are up in Dec compared to a year ago and Nov the increases are only in line with the overall market. Volt sales are not taking away any other Chevy sales. RE: Toyota Prius wagon sales in 10 weeks top GM Volt total for 2011 - Tonavi - 01-19-2012 11:33 AM More variations of Prius = more sales for Prius = less sales for everyone else. If the Volt were actually a decent value and didn't contradict its own purpose it may sell better. RE: Toyota Prius wagon sales in 10 weeks top GM Volt total for 2011 - REVolution - 01-19-2012 11:42 AM So a Prius hybrid vehicle sold a niche partial hybrid electric vehicle.... A Fusion hybrid outsold the HS250h last year too. RE: Toyota Prius wagon sales in 10 weeks top GM Volt total for 2011 - RedChocobo - 01-19-2012 12:18 PM You're not supposed to talk about that HS thing, Toyota pretends it doesn't exist. Not sure why people are so insistent on comparing the Volt and Prius. They aren't even close to the same type of car even though the tech is very similar. RE: Toyota Prius wagon sales in 10 weeks top GM Volt total for 2011 - the_koof - 01-19-2012 01:53 PM How is this even relevant? The mainstream Toyota Prius V starts at $27,000 while the Chevrolet Volt starts at $40,000. That is a rather large gap in price. If you are calling them competitors, you might as well be talking about how much the Corvette ZR1 outsold the 911 Turbo. The Volt also was noted to have issues with parts supply at the assembly plant which shut down production for a while. RE: Toyota Prius wagon sales in 10 weeks top GM Volt total for 2011 - ? - 01-19-2012 02:06 PM Congrats to Toyota. Im struggling to see the point in this vehicle, or for that matter any 5 seat minivan. What benefits does it have over a station wagon? I suppose the elevated driving position might help old drivers getting in and out... Any other advantages to these cars? RE: Toyota Prius wagon sales in 10 weeks top GM Volt total for 2011 - REVolution - 01-19-2012 02:08 PM You do have more space vertically than you would in a station wagon but thats about all I can think of. RE: Toyota Prius wagon sales in 10 weeks top GM Volt total for 2011 - ? - 01-19-2012 02:20 PM Is that really of much use though? Unless you have an abnormally tall dog. And even then, it'd have to be a dog with a fondness for silly hats...
