What is your opinion of MT forums? Reading through here, it still seems there is a lot of hurt feelings and animosity.

I can't speak for everyone else but I don't have much animosity towards MT forums. I actually like certain posters there and have good discussions with them. I've seen some threads over there where certain political views are not accepted which caused a lot of anger for some posters and they have moved over here. Some of these posters are incredibly knowledgeable and make a ton of sense and are easy to have a discussion with (Bas, Rouge, Lengnert, etc) and it seems as if certain posters/moderators over there didn't like it and did whatever they did to cause the members to come here or wherever they decided to go. Another part of it was during the economic down turn a few years ago. When the D3 started making a come back they faced a lot of flack from the import crowd and any thread made was just turned into a complete import vs. domestic warfare and no legit discussion could be had. It got so bad that I just got sick of sales debates and who's number 1 that I came over to CF, thanks to Alux's invite, to get away from a lot of it. Unfortunately there is no escape from it but I don't mind certain posters here. I tend to just stick to what I like and could care less about Ford vs. GM or who sells the most cars or what the public likes. I care more about technical discussions instead and there are a good handful of guys here who know what they are talking about and that I actually like talking to. I still go onto MT from time to time to check it out and post on some forums but I don't linger for long. Another nice thing about this site is that we are slowly starting to become something significant and I'm really happy to be a part of it and try to do what I can when I can to help it.

I have no animosity towards MT Forums, its a feeling of apathy more than anything else. I read their reviews and other reviews and always take it with a grain of salt instead of swearing by what others say and starting arguments with sources that coincide with my views. I'm probably one of the few.

So the 2009 bankruptcys were a source of the forum taking a downturn? I was wondering.

Again, I can't speak for everyone else, but thats what it looked like to me. I was working at a Ford dealership at the time and I felt the pain even though I was able to see the how Ford was going in the right direction. I supported the bailouts openly on forums and in the real world. I don't consider myself as a deep thinker but I'm a bit more balanced than most and can see them taking the step in the right direction. It may have took the bailouts to do but look at them now. There comes a point when mindless debate and constant idiotic banter ruins an actual discussion and turns me off.

This is all coming from a guy who loved his imports.

Not much is actually discussed on MT when I read things on there. It's a debate and people take sides, literally, with import versus domestic. In 2012, almost 2013, who honestly cares? Cars are more than just place of origin these days with things coming from all areas with everyone having input too. And some of the comments on there are very laughable, especially some of the logic and reasoning people love to say about a car they think is an "epic fail", generally something subjective without much merit or basis on anything. But that's that climate on there and that frigidness keeps me off. Just me, though.

Hate the format, like a lot of the people.

I'm pretty neutral toward them. There used to be a lot of posters that were foolish domestic fanboys but the forum has been purged of most of them. I suppose they finally moved out of their mothers' basements. Nd4spd was a true stalker. Nowadays most posters are pretty chill and it isn't difficult to get into good conversation with them. There used to be a lot of flame wars and import vs. domestic fights but that has cooled down. I like visiting there time to time.

I think a lot of posters here are bitter because they got banned (for breaking rules that were clearly stated) or didn't like the fact that they couldn't curse. Motor Trend is a corporation with thousands of magazine subscribers; there needs to be an atmosphere of professionalism maintained so I see no problem with their censorship. Some dbag mods like Nd4spd used to alter my and other peoples' posts but that doesn't happen anymore.

MT is no worse than this forum. You get to Cuss more here but other than that contents, and info in general are just about equal. Probably the same amount of idiot GM humpers on both forums also.



Fortunately McLovin and I are the voices of reason around here and we keep these GM bozos in line.

MT is boring as hell with an emphasis on pushing advertisements over having a real enthusiast community.

Plus the import bias at the time was disgusting. Toyota matrix was voted higher than the Pontiac vibe for instance. WTF..
