Quote:With the average transaction price of a new car in the U.S. at just under $31,000, it's tough going for many an American auto shopper. And if you're a prospective buyer of an "enthusiast" car, whose extra horses and performance parts tend to inflate bottom lines up to the top shelf, the outlook is even grimmer.

Or is it?

I'm pretty sure that was me, and it was by Road & Track and didn't include the Mustang, or GTi. I could be wrong though.

Yeah, I read the article.

I do see how they come to their conclusions.

However, is anybody here gonna hate me if I tend to prefer the fastest and best performing vehicle in the test?

Yea, call ahead to make sure there isn't a bunch of chicks at the dealship already test driving the lone automatic!

Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves? Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here? Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?

It is pretty amazing for all the bashing of the Mustang for riding on an "old" platform it still got around the track the fastest!

What is that Ricky Bobby says, "If you ain't first, you're last!"

Yeah, it is hard to get around the fact that it is the best performer out there and they were also able to admit that it may have the best ride for comfort too.

To me the Mustang represents something akin to the older athlete that still goes out and puts up numbers at an All-Star level. Sure, there are younger guys out there that have some moves, but in crunch time you always go back to the veteran, because he just gets the job D-O-N-E.

While for me that is a "badge of courage" and something to admire, for others it is something to resent (apparently).

I suppose if I owned a Mustang I would assuage my pain in knowing that in most cases the guys whining about my car at least would have a healthy dose of exhaust fumes to go along with their wine (whine).

It also would have been very interesting if a Camaro had been included.

I find MT's excuse for not having one totally lame! I mean, come on I'm sure a dealer would have lent them one if they asked.

I mean this would have been like not having a Malibu in a mid-size compro.

Bigger, faster and stronger is the American way of doing things. It's in our DNA.

I would be more inclined to go with MT, if the top rated cars had a superior power to weight ratios - but they don't.

If i was buying one of these cars i would no doubt spend my money on the V6 stang, it is damn fast for what you pay, and imo would give you the best daily drive, but the camaro, and challenger should have been in this, the new V6 challenger is no slouch and with the suspension update, im sure it would perform well, but of course its no miata but still its an option to consider. I also would not even consider the genesis turbo 4, id get the V6 without a second thought.

This country can’t be knocked out with one punch. We get right back up again and when we do the world is going to hear the roar of our engines. Yeah, it’s halftime America. And, our second half is about to begin.

RE: $28K High-Performance Two Door Comparison - Motor Trend
The Mustang seems to be the best all rounder. At least, thats what I get from the article. Its not the most enjoyable on a track but it will get you the fastest times and is more comfortable to drive on a daily basis. I really am looking forward to the next gen Mustang with IRS as well as an all new lighter Miata. I think the Toyobaru is fine as for the moment, but without a power bump or going lighter, this is going to struggle with the next generation of sports cars that are either in development or are coming out next year.
