Exactly. Now they want to overcrowd Chevy showrooms, which is fine to have a diverse portfolio, but this is nuts. As it stands, Chevy could have the following:
Spark/EV
Sonic
Cruze
Tru 140S
Volt
Malibu
Code 140R/Monza
Impala
Chevelle
Camaro
Corvette
Tracker (Gamma II CUV)
Equinox
Trailblazer
Traverse
Tahoe
Suburban
Colorado
Silverado

But that's what it could end up like if both of those concepts come to fruition, along with Doc's wet dream of a Zeta sedan. If Pontiac were back, they could take the Zeta sedan as the G8/Grand Prix again, the Code 130R as the G6/Tempest/Grand Am and the Tru 140S as the Sunfire, especially since the Tru started out as a stillborn Pontiac concept anyways.

-Why do they need two coupes. If the Camaro is getting smaller next gn then why not put a turbo 4 and go against the FR--S and Genesis Coupe. To me they are streaching their lineup a little thin.

The best there was and the best there ever will be.

the Code130S is more than likely, what the next Camaro is gonna be... with different looks obviously.... the Tru140R.... Mark Reuss said its not making it to production

Pontiac is dead folks. Move along coffee

“The build sheet is the wish list of any racer: lightweight high-revving dry-sump LS7 engine; carbon-ceramic brakes; integrated coolers; true aerodynamic downforce, and a significant reduction in curb weight. This car could only come from Chevrolet, and could only be called the Z/28.”

RE: Cadillac ATS platform will produce next CTS, Camaro and Chevrolet coupe
I think that it's a great idea for GM to spread the Alpha platform around, with one big "if." That "if" is that it must first prove itself capable of being a good Cadillac. It's not good enough to make a Cavalier into a Cimarron-it MUST be an excellent luxury platform first, THEN you can use it to make overachieving Camaros, Novas, whatever. GM has already proved this idea with the DI 3.6: it was a great Cadillac motor before it became an awesome Camaro motor.

Your luxury brand isn't going anywhere if you try and make it work the other way 'round. As far as that goes what is understood need not be further discussed.

I'll be the first to admit that there are some things the F-Series does better than the Silverado. And by that I mean "donate it's back axle to the company's sporty car."

It's probably just the elitist ass hole in me but I wouldn't buy a $55k that shares a platform with an Impala or something similar.

It's a bad move on GM's part in my opinion purely from a prestige point. It's hard to compete with a 5 series, an XF, etc when, correctly or incorrectly, your viewed as a gussied up Impala or Malibu.

Having read the whole thread, I have come to the following conclusions:

1. Motor Authority hasn't been paying attention. Two years ago when this plan was released, GM said it would underpin vehicles from a number of brands and vehicle classes. The next Camaro was included by name, others were insinuated.

2. Its a good thing Pontiac is dead. Even amongst the members of this forum, no one has a good, simple plan to utilize and exploit the Pontiac badge and image. Except me. hello haha

3. While there are alot of cars in the Chevy portfolio, they dont really step on each other much.
Spark is, in reality, the car that replaces Aveo.
Sonic, despite all comments otherwise, actually replaces Cobalt sedan, dimensionally.
Cruze, in typical GM style, is the bridge between a true compact and a true midsize.
Malibu is a true midsizer.
Impala, while externally the same size as Malibu, is much larger inside. The new, bigger one had better be downright cavernous.
Caprice (which you left out btw) is what it is, thats why we cant buy one. It actually would step on Impala.
Volt, Camaro and Corvette are all niche vehicles.
Equinox, and Traverse are, essentially, Malibu and Impala wagons.
Captiva, also missing from your list, is rental only in N America, and a rebadged Vue.
Tahoe and Suburban are workhorses that can be used as family vehicles.
Colorado and Silverado are separated enough by size and powertrains to not be much of a concern.

Trailblazer is similar in size to Traverse which makes it the lone question mark. Though it sells great, Traverse must be close to the end of its production cycle. If I was a product planner at GM I woukd seriously be apprehensive of straying too far from this formula. I dont know if a rear wheel drive, full frame junior SUV will strike the same chord in peoples perception.
Other than a new Trailblazer SS I dont see a need for it. I think it would lose sales vs Traverse.
Give me a link to Tracker info, I know nothing about it that I can remember.
Tru140S is a Cruze coupe that should be built.
Code130R is a place holder concept before Camaro moves to Alpha.
Chevelle is a wild goose chase. If it were to be made it would probably be similar to the 130.

4. Doc found a new word to love: bespoke

5. The Mayans were wrong, the new age of man began on Friday, January 13th when Casa and McWings exchanged posts without using the words "asswipe" or "fuckwad".

NO.. it must be just the asshole in U. :ifyousayso:

I'm an elitist... and would pay up to $80K for an XTS Platinum AWD if it had a 430HP TT3.6L in it. MAke no mistake about it... the check would be signed off on before I even got to the dealership.

The EpsilonII based XTS won't be the 5series competitor... for the time being it will compete to some degree with the 7series, S-class, A8, LS460, and XJ. The 5series/XF competitor will continue to be the CTS, but this time... it's coming full strength, as if this time weren't in many cases more than enuff

LOL... #5 was just me being tolerant.

The rest I agree. The Pontiac brand, if any one remembers, was supposed to have the next G6 going to Alpha. A similar vehicle to what was gonna be at Holden as the Torana.

The Trailblazer is not necessary in this market as anything other than a GMC SUV or CUV. Only thing I could see it being at Chevy is the revised look of the same sized Traverse.

The new Malibu is supposedly more spacious than the current one. The headroom alone is supposedly capable of accommodating Shaq.
